Tell me about copper HW cylinders...

You also have the problem that most of the time water will not reach 65 degrees in your new cylinder. Making a great place for legionella to multiply. If you have ever looking in an old cold water storage tank and seen the black/ green growth. One cylinder, your gas boiler would push it over 65...

How do you know if a pipe is imperial or metric?

Copper pipe looks a different size when tarnished. But I would go to the plumbers merchant and get a compression T, 1/2''X1/2''X15mm. You can usually take stuff back if they are any kind a merchant! Brass fitting (or copper) are much better than your Speedfit parts anyhow!

How do I detect leak in heating pipes under a concrete floor

How about your plumber injects a stain into rad water to make ANY leak apparent. If its the coil you will then see it mixed in your hot tap water. If not, you should soon see where its coming from. Drastic fault, drastic measures!

    Electric Showers

I may be wrong, but I think if you change brand you will have to move cable and cold water pipe 6''as Mira have connections on the left side. Most other brands seem to be on the right for cable and water?? Over 9kw and you may need a 10mm cable, but you need to check...

    15mm TRV on microbore

You will find both turned parts have a chamfered surface around the hole, this is where the olive "seats" and gets crushed onto the microbore. The larger brass part goes inside the base of the rad valve (use a little PTFE around part). The nut goes on the pipe, then the smaller brass part...

How do I detect leak in heating pipes under a concrete floor

If you have gone from un-pressurised to pressurised could be the coil in your old copper cylinder leaking to your hot water side(DHW)? Do you have a System boiler? If your plumber ripped the cylinder out to fit a combi (no stored water)instead forget my suggestion!

Tell me about copper HW cylinders...

Using a pre-heat cylinder for a person with little knowledge would be hard to configure and wire! Simplest way is via a double coil cylinder, using a differential controller. When its too cold the gas boiler will start, if 65+ gas boiler won't! Does he have a F&E tank and where is it?

Tell me about copper HW cylinders...

Firstly, why is your copper cylinder in the attic and not the last floor of your house (usually second floor)? You feed cold water tank for your copper cylinder should be in the attic, flowing water down to the copper cylinder. Are you in a bungalow?? You need ONE copper cylinder with TWIN...

    Cable jointers, a risky job!

Umm? If neutral is a "live" conductor, how is it the main earth wire does not have a chance to also become "live". Might as well call the earth the "Safety Neutral Wire", if its essencially the same?

    Cable jointers, a risky job!

My mate had his mains cable replaced as I told him there was no sheath on the existing one  The DNO came out and replaced cable back as far as his neighbours supply(under eaves). Splitting sheath, (fork style) to joint it and NOT isolating the street! What safety gear do they use to...
