Surface water Charges doubled in 3 Years

All my rainwater is stored in IBC tanks and most used for toilet flushing and garden, surplus rainwater and surface water goes into the river adjacent to my bungalow. Therefore I do not pay surface water charges but do have to divert some road drainage via my property.

Rigifix vs Dryline Pro vs Wall Anka

For a heavy duty fixing I have used rawlbolts with a suitable length steel spacer. I would think chemical fixings would work just as well but not tried them.

How can these screws both have 4mm diameter?

Pity we cant go back to the old imperial sizes. A No.4 was the same in all makes, as was a 6:8:10:12:14 etc and even No.7 to fit 3" butt hinges.

    Old planning permission

The original drawings for my bungalow built in 1973 (with the LA stamp "passed") show a garage which was never built. There is evidence on the front wall of the bungalow (point X on attached drawing) of the garage wall having been built. Is this planning permission still valid if I decide to...

President Trump and the State Visit to the UK

Interesting that so much is made of 1.5 million signing a petition. By simple maths that means around 63 million didn't sign it.

    Cataract

Thanks for all the replies. One thing is confusing me but the surgeon will no doubt clarify on the day, but the booklet given to me by the optician gave aftercare as "be careful not to get soap in the eye for 2 weeks"; the info from the hospital stated "do not wash your hair for 2 weeks". The...

Pine Knotty Interior Door - How to finish it?

I have never used this on pine but on light oak I use Lord Sheraton Caretaker Wood Balsam, available in most supermarkets. On light oak it gives a very pale honey finish. It is easy to apply using a cloth. I would suggest that whatever you use try it on the closing edge of the door first where...

Misinterpretation of Permitted Development rules by Council?

Its almost certain that the "boiler house" etc was the toilet and coal house of the original building and thus forms the rear and side walls. The op should have knocked them down before applying for PD.

    Removal of woodstain

I have a set of small tables with intricate turned legs. I believe that the timber is beech but it has been stained and varnished. The finish is very tired and I would like to return it to clean timber. The varnish removes easily with paint stripper but the stain is proving a problem. Is there...

    Driverless Cars

Reading in yesterdays DM about the driverless car "driver" who was killed in an accident because the sensors could'n't tell the difference between the sky and a white lorry. The designers of these cars commented that "more people will die before we get it right." As these cars are to be allowed...

Is there any way you can block unwanted e-mails completely. You can add them to blocked senders lists but they still go into junk and some even still go to the inbox and you have to mark as junk again.

Interesting that some Stewart Turner pump instructions state that 22mm should be used but supply 15mm flexibles for the pump.
