    Income Tax

I am confused as to why you are concerned about April. Unless you are a limited company your tax return for the year ending this April is due next January, so plenty of time for your accountant to sort out your accounts.

    Income Tax

As Dave54 said, get an accountant. It's surprising what you can claim for. You work from home - claim for use of office, married? - claim wife's wages for secretarial work. Tools are normally charged at 20% a year for tax purposes and vehicles similar (could be different amounts now, I retired...

Continuing news of notorious Catholic Yorkshireman

I do not wish to say whether he was guilty or not, but not one of Savilles accusers evidence has ever been tested in court, and why did nothing come to light until after his death?

    bi-fold doors

Personally I would choose aluminium. Slightly more expensive but has slimmer profile and does not twist. Also, powder coat finish is less susceptible to green stain.

Advice needed ,best way to remove footings ?

That is an awfully large block of concrete. I would not think that a mini digger would be man enough ( although I could be proved wrong). The only way that I can think of would break it relatively easy would be a rock drill and plugs and feathers, if they are still available. There may be laser...

    Water under floor when rains

I would suggest that you rather short on air bricks. You need a minimum of one every 2 metres on all outside walls, and normally bricks are left out at intervals in the sleeper walls and any dividing walls.

    Water under floor when rains

Ree, I am surprised that you rubbished my comment about water under the floor is no problem, yet not once have you mentioned air bricks. Providing that there is a clear flow of air through the void there is unlikely to be a problem with water in the bottom of the void. In the past I have both...

Fireplace reinstatement - some advice needed please

I would recommend a multifuel burner in lieu of an open fire. They are far more efficient and much less messy. Multifuel over woodburner as you can allways get smokeless (or smokey, depends where you live) fuel but dry wood is expensive if you have to buy it. You hetas installer will recommend...

    Water under floor when rains

Water under a suspended floor is no problem at all. Damp in the wall is caused by a faulty damp course, no underfloor ventilation, or outside ground built up above the damp course. Check that the air bricks are clear of debris and the DPC in the bay. Sometimes bay windows were only half brick...

    Dips in floor

Flooring Chipboard is tongued and grooved at the joints. The only way to lift a board to gain access underneath is to cut the tongue with a hand saw or floorboard saw. When the board is replaced it is normal to fix a batten under the long edge of the board that has not been moved to support the...

Do I need PP to partition my house into two family divisons

Without knocking your charitable offer, Has your relative explored all possible benefits. There is housing benefit, council tax benefit, child benefit and jobseekers allowance amongst possibly others. This may well be a more sensible option in that they may be able to stay in their own house and...

    Dips in floor

Looks like someone has cut the tongues of the chipboard to gain access and not put battens under to support the joint.

    Damp Floorboards and Underneath!

Timber floors need underfloor ventilation. Check that you have air bricks and that they are clear. I suspect that they will be either non-existant, blocked or covered with earth outside. The rot has been caused by lack of ventilation or muck covering the DPC. Bear in mind that a 1930's house may...
