The chap turned up, done exactly what you suggested. It worked. Said it was the motor in the valve. He quoted me £55 took around 20-30 minutes and left. You knew exactly what it was so thank you for bearing with me and giving sound advice.

Took a look at the valve. It is a Y valve so does both. The one to the c/h is mildly warm and the one to the circulator is hot.

Where would I find the valve for the c/h and is so, what sort of costs are we talking about?

Boilers turned off again, can hear the water in the airing cupboard. The radiators are still cold :(
