    Damp walls

Has the chimney had exterior vents fitted? If not could a lack of ventilation be contributing?

    Stove fitting cost...

Hi Not sure if this is the right section to post? I want to to have a small multi fuel stove fitted. A lot of the work has already been carried out by someone else (insulated liner fitted & register plate, surrounding stonework in good order etc). Stove and all fitting parts are on site...

    Stove pipe collars

Hi When purchasing multi fuel or wood stoves, are the pipe collars that connect the flue pipe to the stove included with the stove? Or do you buy them separate? I can't seem to find any other than ones for some specific stove models? Cheers,

    Identify shower cable

That's what I think a good shower is. Anyway, back to topic... I had an electrician have a look, he said remove existing showers from those 32a rcds from the main consumer unit, then for the new shower suggested a separate rcbo (I think he said rcbo, or did I get that wrong?) with at least 45a...

Absolutely, anything we go for will be from a qualified tradesmen. The items I mentioned above were just examples of the setup, rather than actual suggestions.

    Running 3 showers...?

So, if just using a combi boiler, would one option be electric shower and two combi showers, but set up so that only 1 combi shower can be in use at a time (in which case are 2 combi fed showers pointless, might as well just have one to start with). Should I be avoiding a combi altogether? It's...

    Running 3 showers...?

Hi I'm wanting to have 3 showers in my property, after some thought I'm now thinking... 1 electric (9.5-10.5kw) in ensuite 2 off the combi boiler in two bathrooms What problems am I likely to need to overcome? Cold mains flow/pressure? Hot supply from combi? Currently on LPG bottles with a...

Why would they not do a simple consumer unit upgrade?

    Identify shower cable

I meant I'll be getting an electrician to do the consumer unit and run a 10mm cable up to where the shower is going, plus anything else I can't/shouldn't do. Basic stuff I'll do myself but get my own work checked & signed off, like the extractor I fitted the other week etc.

    Device attached to ducting?

That's a really good point, thank you! Yes, it's in a part of the country popular with walkers... it also rain regularly, so damp/wet jackets will be fairly common, I'll need to plan for that. Planning to have a couple of humidistat fans in kitchen/utility room.

    Device attached to ducting?

I'll check those fans out. While on the subject, the house does have quite bad condensation issues... I'm looking at improving ventilation, but anyone have experience with these? They seem to have rave reviews and claim to be good at sorting condensation, while being cheap to run? Drimaster...

    Device attached to ducting?

Thanks, will consider that, however I suspect the fan is a good 10-15 years old... would it not be better to just get a newer, more efficient one?

    Burning timber from loft room

Thanks. This won't be a regular thing, once it's gone it's gone, it'll be proper firewood from then on. While we're on the subject... when the burner is fitted, does the flue liner have to be insulated?

    Burning timber from loft room

Great, thanks, I'll get it chopped up. Only take me 20 mins to run a circular saw through it all, nearest recycle site is 45 mins away (and they charge you to dump stuff). I might take out the 6 inch nails but leave the small plasterboard nails in.

    Burning timber from loft room

:) No. I've never had a wood burner before, so I have no idea what is and isn't safe to burn, hence the question. What part of it made you ask?

    Device attached to ducting?

Possibly, the light is directly above where the shower head will be, wasn't sure if it was ok or if the steam would be excessive. I'm not a fan of downlights anyway, so want to get rid regardless.
