    Extending a mains socket cable

I can't speak for anyone of you personally but I think someone would struggle to find an electrician to come out and extend a cable by a few feet.

Part P for England and Wales - what about DIY in Scotland ?

Tell you what. We have a pending application for completion for an extension from two years ago that Building Control haven't granted. Completion hasn't yet been granted because we didn't obtain a certificate for the electrical work thus haven't submitted it. You can call them and tell...

Part P for England and Wales - what about DIY in Scotland ?

If any electrical work has been done and if our (or the customers) application for completion does not include a certificate from the electrician LABC will not grant the relevant Completion certificate I don't know any law or regulation to back this up. I can only go on what Building Control...

Part P for England and Wales - what about DIY in Scotland ?

Is it only Fife Council or does your work cross into other counties? For the past two years or so we have had to submit an electrical certificate with every application for completion

    Extending a mains socket cable

People on here talk of picking and choosing which jobs they take on. If someone called you to come to their house and extend a wire, how would that rate in your list of priorities?

Part P for England and Wales - what about DIY in Scotland ?

Also on the example of an electrical certificate for a newly installed kitchen how could they reasonably ask for this given there was no legislation in place beforehand that stipulated this was necessary.

I guess then that an inspection report will only be a report on the condition/working order of the gas appliances or the electrics on that particular day and the tester won't be held liable given they are testing someone else's work. I can see it going one of two ways. A nightmare to...

Part P for England and Wales - what about DIY in Scotland ?

When a job has been finished (a job that required a building warrant which includes electrical work) we need to supply an Electrical Certificate along with the rest of the paperwork before a completion certificate is issued

Thats interesting bald man. I wonder what the council view as substantial alterations. I would have thought getting power to a garage would have come under that The Home Report looks positive but I see a couple of years of grey areas for some of the things they are trying to implement (ie...

Part P for England and Wales - what about DIY in Scotland ?

Interesting that (maybe only relevant in Fife) Whenever we do any work that requires a new electrical installation (extensions, loft conversions, conservatories) we need to supply an Electrical Certificate (including test results) completed and signed by the electrician that we use. This has...

ATTACHING A NEW TOILET TO EXISTING SOIL PIPE

Angle grinder if it is a cast pipe, hacksaw if its lead. A McAlpine flexi pan connector should slot inside the pipe and give you an easy connection to your new toilet. They are about £15 tho depending on the length

    underfloor heating mat

£75 is nothing for the piece of mind of having a certificate to prove that the work was done correctly. You are paying for his time, materials, and knowledge/competance.

    When The GU10 Lamp Blows

Thanks Gary. Its not something that bothers me so much as long as there is no underlying problem that is causing the MCB to trip everytime a bulb goes (ie a safety issue) Its a 10A B Type btw Out of interest, why would the MCB trip when a GU10 50W lamp goes but not when a standard...
