    Busying a telephone line

Sorry, don't know the the revelation, too new for me! a Normal telephone is usually less than 1000 ohms, so a resitive loop of less than that will simulate a telephone loop, BT might still see this a fault though! but I don't think they have the resource to be bothered anymore? pp.

    Busying a telephone line

BT used to provide a busying out service, they had a sliding switch, that put a resistive loop across the last line, and this operated a relay in the exchange that busied out all/some the others. All you need to do is put a short cct across lines you don't need to ring ie. tmls 2+5 , this...

    fill the van up

The non motorist still has to pay for food deliveries, etc, They choose not to be a motorist, so dont pay directly into fuel, Should they pay more bus/train fares? What if we made all buses/ rail journeys free, would more people become non-motorists......Where would the government get their...

    capping off phone line

yes, they are daisy chained in paralell, or star fed, disconnecting a wire will just make dead any sockets down the line. If a cable is left, and gets damp, this could cause faults to the main line, needing BT to come out and they will charge, so dissconnect all unused wiring

    fill the van up

What do you call fair? make high earners pay more tax? Its just easier for them to pay it on fuel, Lets face it there is nothing you can tax that will not cause outcry amongst those selfish people who want all, but to pay nothing. If its not on fuel, it will be on fags, beer, wine, spirits...

    fill the van up

People dont like paying out for anything. Was I the only one who thought the poll tax was ok? It meant everyone paid their bit, but the people who never paid at all didn't want to pay anything but still wanted council facilities, ie bins emptied, libraries etc, I pay income tax, and proud...

    capping off phone line

Hi Thermo, you should find where it is coming from, as a short cct, or a leak to earth in the cable will cause all sorts of problems. It must come from another socket or connection point, just disconect wires and see if it goes dead. unless it is really old stuff, disconnecting will only cause...

    Bricklaying on tarmac?

Hi Joe, If you want them to last a few years, you should dig down about 6 inches at least and put a concrete raft in, a good foundation, level, to build up from.otherwise the tarmac will sag, and if on a slope will move and crack the brickwork.

    Crack Above Door Spells Disaster?

Hi weirdfish Put yourself in a buyers position, they will assume the worst and try to get a reduction in the price. A surveyor will try not commit themselves and try and justify their costs, by getting a reduction. If you are sure there is a properly fitted lintel, then it just needs...

    Hanging 40Kg on plasterboard

Hi, I would fix a plywood board to the wall, fixed to to the stud work, which are probably 3x2 , locating them might be a problem, but you seem to know where they are, they should only be about 18 inches apart at most, in which case you should get al least 3 anchor points. it might not look too...
