    Spare tyre.

I assumed they meant they are running on three alloys and the spare tyre on the road at the minute. So they have no spare tyre in the boot cos its on the car at the minute!

    Spare tyre.

Depends what type of spare. If its a space saver spare, i,e its narrower than the other tyres then it will say on it the maximum speed you can go. If its the same size as the other wheels then you can drive on it for as long as you like and at what speeds you like.

    Recommend a tyre pump/compressor

I can vouch for this too. I bought one after unsuccessfully using many small compressor types that broke or where like using an ashmatic ant to pump up the tyres. The halfords one is very good, seems accurate and is pretty strong and robust.

    Window locks - which one?

Hi, I want to be able to have one or two of my windows open, for ventilation, but only a small amount. I therefore want to be able to lock them so they cant be fully opened from the outside. Can anyone recommend a lock to do this? They are wooden windows and open with the hinge on the...

Nissan Micra heater blower resistor card... where is it?

You cant get to it from above, but its very accessible. Look under the glove box. There may be a plastic panel which needs to be removed by flipping two catches near the glove box hinges. once this is removed, look to the right and under there you should see a bunch of wires going into a...

    Expansion Vessel explained please...

As you heat water it expands. Hot water is heated but it comes out of the tap so the expansion is minimal. for central heating, the heating is done in a sealed system so expansion has to go somewhere. An expansion vessel is filled with air which can be compressed so this takes up the...

    405 immobiliser problem

For some reason I seem to remember there is a master switch somewhere either in the engine bay or in the boot. You can then disable the immobiliser that way.

    Nissan Micra heater matrix

Have a look on this forum: http://www.micra.org.uk/forums.php Its a little bit populated by boy racers but there are quite a few people on there with lots of knowledge who should be able to help. From what I understand its not toooo bad a job.

Swift flow 80 fan on the way out.

Dont apologise, its not your fault! I have sprayed some WD40 on the spindle and its now quiter than it has ever been since I moved into the flat in July! Amazing. Obviously this is just a temporary fix, but if it can keep me going until next month my wallet will be much happier.

Swift flow 80 fan on the way out.

I woke up today to find my swift flow 80 making a grinding , screeching noise from the fan. Everything else working as normal. I can get a fan for roughly £125 or I can buy new bearings for £5! Is it an easy job to replace the bearings? - I am very mechanically minded. or would it be...

Whats the best car for DIY repairs ?

1970's VW beetle. Everything can be replaced, tuned with a spanner and screwdriver, (plus blow torch, allen keys, hammer, gaffer tape etc etc). But you wont need a computer to check it!!

VW golf starting and stalling problems

This is a common problem for the 1.6 VW engines. I have a Seat Leon 1.6 2001 model (same engine, same car really!)and it is caused by a faulty or dirty mass air flow MAF meter in the throttle body. My car starts fine, but then at the lights or junctions etc, it will "bounce" on the idle...

Replacing Water With Anti Freeze Escort

Im surprised if the car doesn't have antifreeze in it already. If it didn't, the engine would be really crudded up and the radiator rusty and blocked. If not, I would recommend completely draining the system and filling with the correct amount of water/anti freeze mix for your car. There is...

    Punto brake light problems.

If lights come on when other lights go off, or should come on, this usually points to a bad earth. Check all earths of all wires involved. They should be clean and make good contact with the body of the car. I would change all the bulbs just to eliminate a bad bulb. Also check are the...
