    It's a capillary tube that links the pilot light to the gas valve to keep the pilot light burning. Can you see a spark coming from the electrode through the little window when you press the spark button?

    Have a try with an Arc set, cheap to buy and no extra gas to buy if using MIG unless of course your using flux cored wire. It takes a bit of an knack to get used to it, slag holes etc but you'll soon get the hang of it and watch that old slag peel of behind the weld. :wink:

    Can you see the bend to which the upright pipe with stop cock is attached to? If so you could buy a nipple (galv iron) then screw the new stop cock to it (ohh errr) then pipe away with copper after it.

    The bathroom may also be mains fed to the cold taps. Can you hold your finger over the cold tap to stop the flow of water? if not it's mains fed.

    What tap are you talking about? Kitchen, bathroom basin? If its the kitchen the water pressure will be higher cos it's mains fed.

    I very much doubt it. It's up to the owner to make sure that the car is maintained correctly and you could not put the onus onto the test station because they don't even test it.
