    Bitumen/self levelling/tiling

I have only done this once in my kitched. The toilet (that i originally posted about was levelled before hand). The kitchen tiles are still down and havent shown any signs of movement at all so i would say (in my opinion) that yes it would be ok.

    Tiling a laminated kitchen worktop?

I'm not sure if you'd be able to. Not a lot sticks to laminate. I remember getting tile adhesive on my work top when i tiled my kitchen and it came off very easily.

    Bloody winds - fence posts

Thanks Thermo, Thats some handy info there! Is there any "rule of thumb" as to how much of the post needs to go into the ground? The posts that i'm going to replace only appear to be in the ground about a foot (they hold up 6ft panels plus a further 6 inches as "decoration")? Cheers Tom

    Bloody winds - fence posts

Hi chaps, Part of our fence blew down last night, only 2 panels came clean off but 3 posts are loose. I want to take out the old posts and it looks like they will come out with the concrete attached. Whats the best way to go about fitting new posts in the existing hole? I'm worried that the...

    Quick question - radiator pipe

Sorry, should've been clearer. I fear that if i bend it back it will split but will try. Basically i had it set in my mind that i was going to bend it using a pipe bending tool. Since then though a work friend told me this may not be the best idea. I just wondered what the prefered method is of...

    Quick question - radiator pipe

Alright chaps, I removed a radiator last night to fit a new floor. The tails were left upright and somebody (my girlfriend) stood on one of them bending it right back. I need to replace that piece of pipe, i have full access to it after lifting the floor boards. My question is, the pipe has...

lower kitchen ceiling + spot lights...HELP

I think you may have posted this in the wrong section but anyway..... The best thing i found to do was put up a false ceiling. This would mean fitting woodon supports across you existing ceiling (you could take the old one down first) and putting up platerboard and fixing to the new woodon...

Cutting a "U" shape out of a tile

I had to do the same when i tiled my bathroom. The easiest way i found was to cut the 2 straights with a tile cutter/saw and either do the rounded bend with a jig saw with a tile cutting blade or use a tile nibbler and file the "jaggedness" with a tile file. I did try drilling loads of hole...

    Blue circle mortar mix

Thats what i thought, it looked like the ratio of sand / cememnt wasnt right. It was a ready mixed bag i bought though. From what you say i had the right amount of water in it, the surfaces were sprayed with water before laying too. Do you recommend any other pre mixed mortar brands? i...

    Blue circle mortar mix

Morning chaps, I bought a bag of blue circle mortar mix at the weekend and mixed it up to lay 2 dislodged bricks on an internal wall. I put the correct amount of water in and mixed to the correct consistency (i think). After letting it go off its now gone really brittle and crumbly and...

    Bitumen/self levelling/tiling

I think i beat you there pal, i posted that back in september and finished it a few days later  . As Moz and gcol said, it was fine to tile or put levelling compound down on top of bitumen - no probs at all. I think i was worried to begin with because i wasnt quite sure what bitumen was.

Pink bathsuite - wall colour advice needed

Agreed with John there. I have literally just removed by pink suite but had to live with it for 2 years. The chap who owened the house before me had pink wall paper to match (you can imagine how bad that looked!) I stripped the wall paper and went with a light magnolia, this made the room look a...

    Fitting new shower base.

I fitted a plinth for future access to the trap although it will definately help with stability if you were planning on going stright onto the floor boards. Also the other problem you may have if fitting onto a wooden floor is that the supporting joists may be in the way of any waste pipes...

    Fitting new shower base.

I think the 1" ply refers to the material you will be setting it down onto, as opposed to straight onto floorboards. I used silicon to fit mine, onto a wooden plinth. Once the silicon dries the shower tray wont be going anywhere.
