    Noise problem in new semi!

Well, I had an interesting conversation with 'Robust Details' this afternoon. I'm just about to build a block of flats, and It transpires that if I want to avoid the sound test element of the construction phase, I can just register each unit with Robust details. For the minor sum of £30 per...

how much concrete can be poured in a day?

This is a DIY site - the OP is unlikely to be able to hire a 22 ton Daewoo tomorrow, but a decent local concrete firm will either have a pump, or a good relationship with a pumping firm whom they can recommend. Therefore making it DIYable. I also expect the hire of a 22 Daewoo and driver...

how much concrete can be poured in a day?

I don't understand how Nose's £200 for the hire of a pump is expensive? If you tart about with that much concrete with man power and digger/dumper hire costs over that distance it will come in i'd imagine over the cost of the hire of the pump. So although you can get wonderfully cheap...

    Noise problem in new semi!

Perhaps a building surveyor? I'm also surprised that you think they don't know about the building side of things, a lot of them actually specify this part of the work - so I would imagine your either asking the wrong questions or they're not interested. In all likeliness though, I'd say...

    Noise problem in new semi!

I'm afraid from here on you really need some on site help mate - theres only so much guesswork that can be provided on a forum like this.

    Bricklayer Costs and time

So much more detail needed as Nose eludes to - i've just had a set of plans that have a 40mm German brick sized to be laid with NHL 3.5. Totally different cost point, especially in comparison with the blockwork flats we're doing elsewhere. Get 3 or 4 guys out of your local rag and get them...

I would have thought that it would be tricky, but wish you well.

    Noise problem in new semi!

We usually put a render sound coat on before dabbing the acoustic board on. They are likely to be concrete for density, but there are alternatives on the market. If im not mistaken, a solid 215 wall with sound coat and acoustic board will still pass robust details for a semi.

    Noise problem in new semi!

+1 - never heard of some one being able to carry out one and not the other test! As for the robust details, they're worthless unless the workmanship is up to scratch, a lot of them only just sneak under the tolerances. Just to add, i'd be chasing this like a dog with a bone - it will be...

    Full-Fill PIR

You are right in theory, but there isn't really much roof left for working tolerances....so although once you've laid the block worked it to the line and chopped your excess muck off and you have a lovely clear Cav, really you need that little bit of room to work with. I've never used it...

    Full-Fill PIR

Its because bricklaying is never as much of a science as people think, you often need to pinch a few mm here and there to make things work, and this is where a compressible full fill comes into its own.

    Full-Fill PIR

I can't see blokes on big sites taking their time to instal it that well. As a more domestic firm we've got a bit more time on our hands to get it right, but i'd imagine that even with the best will in the world it's still gonna be tricky.

    Full-Fill PIR

Just spoke with Xtratherm - they said that CavityTherm is better than Edison discovering the phonograph! My main concern is about the details around trays, corners and jambs etc. Rockwool is so much easier to get right!

    Full-Fill PIR

Is that why? The upgrade in regs? Could it just be used in a 115/120 cavity or does it need to be full fill?

    Full-Fill PIR

Hi Chaps, any of you been asked to use full fill PIR boards in a 100mm cavity before. Apparently Xtratherm do a product called CavityTherm - my brother has used it and said it was ridiculously hard to use. I wondered if any of you other chaps had had a go at it?

Driveway sub base. Is this suitable.

When you deal with tradesmen for cash on jobs like this you will get no guarantee or come back. Thats why they ride to work on their cowboy horses and wear cowboy spurs....perhaps they've got a jaunty cowboy hat too? This is not a good arrangement for you to get a solid driveway. Its too...

Driveway sub base. Is this suitable.

It was the inference that it sounds like a cowboy job to me. I build houses and flats and things and don't really dabble in drives that often, but to only skim out 200mm and fill with broken bricks doesn't sound enough to me. Your cost seems way to cheap to me, it would indicate that...

Building block shed on loose filled soil

The wise man built his shed on 450mm trench fill foundations in a good substrate, the foolish man built his shed upon the soil.
