How level should a new wall be

Nose, we're building one at the moment where we are matching back into an existing extension and there is actually a pig in the wall. 27 courses on one side of the doors and 28 the other!! Wow. I though 'pigs in the wall' were just made up. Blew our mids figuring it out, you just don't expect...

repointing garden wall- should i chase out both sides first?

+1 - Hate to say it as a Brickie, but this is well within your capabilities, DIY. But a 4inch wall could also easily absorb the hacking out on both sides to 20mm.

    Wide stud wall

6x2 and 12.5mm board - put some APR inside and its as simple as that. Don't use 2 sections of timber, you'll just double your work load.

Builder has overlooked something on the plans

Although i'm left a little confused by the post, my opinion would be that they should have vented them properly. If they've gone to the trouble of installing them and electrifying them they need to make sure they work properly. Like Nose says, quite often builders will leave elect or...

NHMF schedule of rate. Anyone heard of it?

Mate - without knowing more, its hard to give a truely professional opinion. So in light of the absence of the information, it sounds ****ing bizarre!! Who on earth wrote that?!

How soon do you expect payment.

FWIW - I offer 7 day payment terms on all invoices. On my contracted larger work, which in fairness is most of it now, I offer a 5% retainer which is invoiced for 90 days following completion of the practical completion of the job, this is on immediate payment terms. I also sign a payment...

    Order of works

Without the calculations its impossible to make any sensible comment really - I just thought i'd stick my neck out as no one had answered you. Pinenot means a finish like brick would require a different approach to rendered blockwork or timber framed because of how its finished. As for...

    Order of works

Albeit that I don't have all the info, I'd say that B1 sounds like an idiot and that B2 is the man for the job.

    Builder any good at flashing?

What this looks like is a classic case of the general builder who has a go at everything....the lead is dressed badly, the sealant is messy, the pointing on the hips is messy just a few things in such a small area. Imagine what the job looks like as a whole.....

Problem with structural wall changes & new RSJs

Usually I agree with Noseall on most things, but, as a Builder, I would still do some due diligence on the area before assuming that the Engineer was correct. I think as professionals we owe our customers that responsibility. Not to just plough on regardless, but be diligent about all aspects of...

    Wall plates? I'm desperate!!

No DPC required - slate used to be used as a DPC

Water Pouring into House (maybe through Brickwork??)

On my phone it's a bit tricky to tell. But people don't just bed a flappy piece of DPC into a wall - it needs to be bedded into the outside skin to send water away....

Cost of extension - Builder or Project manager

On a small extension like this, your cost per sq/m may well not be as much as you have quoted. You can't fit to many extra's in that size of space. A decent contractor should wrap all of that up on his own, no real project manager needed. A small domestic contractor will have many contacts...

Water Pouring into House (maybe through Brickwork??)

Bricks are porous end of story - you have a serious lack of cavity trays and this will be the problem. What troubles me from the picture with the wires in, is that there is some form of DPC skirt in there, but its been cut off and is torn....this requires an explanation.

    Laser Levels for bricklaying

We're brickies by trade, and all I can say is that I love my Topcon Laser more than my wife!! If you get your Damp Course in level, as noseall says, its plain sailing from there. Apart from the trowel, its the best tool in the van.
