    nail through pipe

The OP got a call back to sort out the chippy's mess because no doubt the chippy blamed the plumber - it wasn't in his spec, so not his mess - seems you're the only one who thinks so! He should have used a combination of his eye's and some common sense before just firing a load of nails into...

    nail through pipe

What the plumber that finished 6 months ago? Don't be daft..... Still, Whats the story with your wonder magnets then norcon - would they have found the plastic pipe?

    nail through pipe

Maybe he'll buy one now! Usually people only get caught out once like this.... Also, am I missing the point with your magnets (and I may well be)? What if the studs are timber or the pipework plastic? Surely magnets are no good?

    Any Handyman Start-up opinions please?

I would imagine that VAT registration in the handyman business wouldn't be wholly necessary - also there are ways of working VAT a little bit so that you don't simply add 20% on to everything - keeping you more completive. But if you have ideas of grandeur and want to expand then at least its...

    B&Q trade Card - WARNING

I think this is an interesting topic - don't really have too many thoughts on it as I mainly shop with Selco for about 65% of my stuff which is bargained for a proper trade prices and although they can't do much on sand, cement and blocks etc. the rest of their stuff is well discounted upon...

    Kilcreggan bricks problems

Better bricks may well mean a higher content of natural material in them, hence the salt! Your best bet would be to go in to your local merchants and have a chat with them, the thing is you will largely be driven by what matched up with the rest of your house / garden I imagine.

    nail through pipe

+1 End of story it will be covered by the Carpenters PL not the plumbers. They should be pursuing him, dont drop your mate in it.

    Retaining Walls

Not sure what rates Sheffield Brickies are on, but it would certainly not cost you tens of thousands of pounds, all though its not a small job by any means.

    Kilcreggan bricks problems

And for what its worth, unless you specified that it should be a low salt content brick or something to that effect, it is certainly not his responsibility to rebuild it at his own cost.

    Kilcreggan bricks problems

Different bricks have different salt contents. Some will not be suitable for certain types of use ie; retaining walls where there may be a build up of moisture. Rebuild it in the same bricks at your peril.

Is it worth insulating between the rafters?

Depends on if you are using the loft. If you will be storing stuff up there it might be worth considering tri-Iso or equivalent for the rafters, but if not you would be better off just throwing another layer of quilt up there. Much more cost effective.

    Padstones to Support RSJ

If you can get them delivered that's fine. Nice and easy; but often on a building site there are concrete materials and OSB lying around and a couple of tiny pads like that would take no time to form and pour. The simple answer is do the easiest thing for you either is acceptable.

Brick Slips straight onto existing brick work

I though they came with a backing board that you fixed to the wall?

    Padstones to Support RSJ

You could cast them this morning using rapid set. And the. Install the steels later leaving them propped so that the pads don't take the weight until Monday. Time shouldn't be an issue.

    Padstones to Support RSJ

We had always relied on precast ones, but not that long ago started casting our own, much more preferable.

    Documents for loft conversion

Seems a very reasonable price, so make sure you reference them first. AS for builders, that would be enough information for them to price from plus a site visit.

    Studwork question

Also, to add if I may? Is this a load bearing stud, if so, have you had the correct input given the obvious DIY nature of the job? And to back up ivixor, the bits of timber you have propping up upstairs look both inadequate and poorly installed and out of plumb! They won't continue to do the...
