    Rising damp and heavy breathing

Thanks for info so far its helpful. What do you suggest moving forward. Obviously on a day to day the humidity shouldn't be as high. Ideas to stop reoccurance?

    Rising damp and heavy breathing

Yes I agree the possibility on the external walls, but it was just the same in odd blotches on the inside walls too. I wondered about salts in the plaster, but its the original stuff not patched or anything.

    Rising damp and heavy breathing

Another damp puzzle. Can anyone help solve mystery of intermittent damp on dining room walls. 1930 house, original bitumen damp course in walls and concrete floor slab with parquet laid in bitumen on the floor. Last few days I sealed myself in the room with sander and set about the floor. 8 hrs...

    Wood filler for parquet

One job to another. I have unearthed the original pine herringbone parquet in my 1930 house. The previous owner had covered it in hardboard sheets nailed all over at 6" spacings with underlay and fitted carpet on top. I've read all the parquet pages on this site. I plan to sand and use the...

Replacing spalled bricks save the rest

In the better weather I will be replacing the odd spalled bricks below dpc with engineers. Don't want this work to put the existing bricks which are ok at risk of becoming spalled. Any hints or tips?

Blown vinyl causing rising damp symptoms?

Recently moved into 1930 house. Surveyor indicated areas of damp. There are some visible patches at base of internal walls. They've not got worse in this very wet winter. No mould. I've dry scrapped off a sample of paper, the glue was sticky. The now bare plaster wall now seems fine and dry...

    Brickwork spalled below DPC resolutions?

No. On the top woody. You can see the bitumen line peeping out between the courses. If a spalled brick is taken out in the DPC layer it will cause a breach, so wondering how this is dealt with.

    Brickwork spalled below DPC resolutions?

Thank you tony1851. I didn't fancy disrupting good paving, so if it's not going to make much difference I'll leave it alone. Some of the bricks have the bitumen painted on top ie DPC. How are these replaced to keep DPC sound?

    Brickwork spalled below DPC resolutions?

My first post on this great site so please be gentle. Recently moved into 1930 house with original bitumen DPC. A lot of the brick work below DPC is spalled. The paving round the house is in good order, but it's butted up to the house walls (below DPC). Should we remove some paving to let the...
