Fitting a gulley riser, new problems found.

Its too wet. Not sure how much it is going to rain. Can I leave it over night? I might just go and get that pipe and finish it now

Well the spade trick worked. Was putting the adapter in and the next not of pipe was wobbly, had a dig, and the mortar was loose. All other parts are intact, mortar come off easy enough. Shall I remortar it on with the adapter, then start putting a bed down for the gully? Going to lay a square...

Reckon that's enough to do the spade trick?

I don't have any of those tools, sounds expensive. Can I do it with a hacksaw, and do the spade trick?

Will sharp sand do? That's all I've got in garden. And loads of house bricks. I see what you mean about that pipe. I'm going to take the old one out now, (pointed chisel on the cement?) And see how much pipe I need. There is a few building sites around could go and ask them. Dont think I could...

Bootle Merseyside. I've had a look and I've seen a gully that's the same shape as the one already there, and a separate hopper to go with.

I won't show you where the soil has gone, but let's say the flower bed is about a foot higher. Would a plastic to clay adapter do the trick? Everything I have seen is push fit, but can I put anything else on it for extra security? Can I use house bricks instead of some granular aggregate (...

So its a trap anyway. I take it I have to take that out and put a new one in? It looks like its cemented at the connection. Can I just chip it off, take it out and stick a new one in?it will probably be a plastic one too right?

Cant tell if its a trap or not, but whatever it is, it has collapsed at the bend. So I'm going to have to dig it out I presume? PS. Found a spade in the garden

I'm not Alan Titchmarsh, will probably have to go and get one won't I. If I'm honest I don't really have much of anything, and since I bought this house I've found myself buying all kinds every weekend. A month ago I had a screw driver, tomorrow, a spade.

Bloody hell, you don't sugar coat it do you! That sounds just about my luck to be honest. If I got a builder in to do that, what type of financial punishment am I looking at?

Fitting a gulley riser, new problems found.

When you say this, do you mean the downpipe should physical open inside a gully? This all started because I was ****ing about doing something else outside, my girlfriend unplugged the bath, and water come flying out a drain like a fireman's hose! Thought that can't be right so started digging...

Fitting a gulley riser, new problems found.

I will give it a go in the morning. That should hopefully sort the blockage completely. One thing I did notice, the water IS draining very slowly. I'm not sure if this means its draining through the blockage slowly, and those cracks aren't completely open and leaking. Or its not going through...

Fitting a gulley riser, new problems found.

Had a quick blast this evening, managed to get all of the mud out of the vertical part, I think. It doesn't appear to be very deep because I think I've found the bend, and that seems good and blocked, I'm pretty sure I was pulling bit of brick, nails and god knows what else out. I'll give it a...

Fitting a gulley riser, new problems found.

So potentially not leaking. That would be a rare stroke of luck. That will be the first thing I try. So this is the most likely situation. The paving looks like it will just lift up, so hopefully I can get a decent work area and hole to work in. Am I being optimistic in thinking they just slot...

    Redecorating after removing wallpaper

I'm not an expert, but I can talk to you about plastering from a DIY point of view. Personally, I'm terrible at DIY, but I managed knock a wall down, put up a stud wall up, all I to do was plaster it. I knew I was putting paper on the wall, so I thought I would try and plaster (mainly to learn...

Fitting a gulley riser, new problems found.

Morning everyone, So I noticed I was getting a lot of splashing from my gully's/drains. I noticed the gully's/hoppers sit below the paving, and water was getting onto the soil. To that end, after looking around on here I decided I would raise the gully's with risers, and do any remedial...
