    CAT 5 Question

The difference with 5 and 6, from a physical point of view, is the individual pairs are segregated from each other. Cat 5 is overall screened only. Unless you are talking call centre band width usage, CAT5 is more than suitable. The maximum length of run, for general office usage, before you...

MPB - regs or common sense?

Earthing.. I love earthing debates... muhahahahaha My first question. Who's is the flow meter? The reason I ask is, and it's commonly used as an excuse for the 600mm connection point, what is the worst case scenario should the water authority rip out your supply pipework? Your installation...

    replacement security light

The other conductors will be for the sensing circuit (so the sensor works when the light is off). I couldn't offer you any advice without a picture or knowing where both cables (red, black and earth) go to. I take it you noted down where they were connected before you removed the old one?

Is there a name for this lamp holder?

It will most likely be an E14 or SES (same thing) but it will have to be compatible with the lamp stand thread. Remove it and take it to an electrical wholesaler who should be able to order you one in Orrrrrr Get yourself to IKEA and pick up a nice shiny new lamp :D

    Boxing in of cables

I would say that the installation method would be considered to be B (Number 56) p.264 BS7671:2008 "Sheathed........multicore cables in an open or ventilated cable channel run horizontally or vertically." and the note goes onto say that restricted access is recommended so that the reduction...

    what size cooker cable

    Hey, what do I know I am only a 2391 assessor! :D :D :D 46.52 - 10 = 36.52A less 30% of remainder (30% of 36.52) = 10.96A Therefore 10.96 + 10 = 20.96A (25.96A if with a socket) Soooooo a 32A MCB and the 6mm ² will be sufficient LMAO.. what an absolute turkey :D I was eating chips...

    what size cooker cable

    No isolation facility? 100% design current = 46.52A After diversity has been applied (Table 1B of the On-site guide) (Take first 10A, 30% of remainder (+5A is cooker switch has a socket) 46.52 - 10 = 36.52 x 30% = 25.57A Therefore 25.57 + 10 = 35.57A (40.57A if with a socket)...

Commercial PIR's - Landlord or Tenant?

If it were a bar and the bar was owned by a brewery and the bar was run by a tenant (i.e. the license holder) it is the tenant's responsibility to ensure a PIR is carried out and not the brewery (e.g. for the issue of an entertainments license). If the same bar was ran by a manager then it would...

What's the worst that can happen? Building Regs

:D I (we) don't teach the 2393 but we do the 2392-12-123 electrician's mate course to understanding why plumbers cut through our cables and run heating pipes on top of them. My a' hair has been lost in industry due to this. :D
