    Part P and DIY Work

I agree with the contradictions, and I can't point you to a place that "state that you must follow the current edition of BS7671 in full?" because I don't think it does - And even the bit that says Are they not saying - it won't meet building control approval - if it's not BS7671...

    Part P and DIY Work

Except that Building Regulations will only allow the current edition of BS7671 to be the standard for electrical work to be undertaken against. And will mean that any competent person finding deviations from BS7671:2001 will not be able to self certify the work. Only LA officers can authorise...

NICEIC V's NAPIT V's whoever Part P Scheme

Just thought id ask if anybody had any views on which scheme (domestic installers) one should join? Weather I like it or not, the easiest route through the PP problem, is to join - at least then I can carry on working without getting others involved. Seems like NAPIT cover the requirements for...

    one last question

Who's saying you need to blank the redundant wires?? 3 + 2 + 1 = 6 + (3 for the earth) = 9 When you took off the rose there will have been 3 reds connected in the centre, this is the loop, and need to remain connected together. then there was one Black wire connected to the blue wire...

    one last question

You need to replicate the ceiling rose - some how, if the hole where the wires come from is big enough I would use a small junction box, and push this into the the hole, if not you will have to use choc blocks, I tend to split the block up for each set of wires, then you can wrap insulation tape...

    Earth cable/10mm2

B.A.S Question for you - How do you bond a radiator on a wall to the Hot and cold on the other side of the room, without going under the floor? Iknow this is supplmentery bonding - so might have answered my own question  but even main Equipotential bonding must go under floors at some...

    Part P and DIY Work

I thought - that they were saying that a "competent person" would be recognized as one if they were part of a competent person scheme; thats why NICEIC sparks also have to join the domestic installers scheme! no? Anyway - It seems to me that everybody interprates part P differently - so who...

    Part P and DIY Work

Sorry to but in - but id bet a modest fortune - that in the future when you come to sell your house, you will have to buy an indemnity policy - for the buyer - just incase theres something wrong!! A pal of mine sold his house a few months back. 8 years prior he had an extension built - with...

    Earthing sockets and switches

Yeah Saw the same program "Bricking It" C4, the install was surface mounted Galv conduit, with metal back boxes, metal clad switches wired in singles -(For a modern apartment) I was quite surprised that the supervisor told the kid that it was extremely dangerous. Topical - Christmas Lighting

Hi All, Quick question - Wondering what methods of installation ideas you have for installing the ever increasing number or festive lights :?: Most lights I have fall into the extra low volts 12/24v via plug in transformers, or mains 240v. And don't like / want wires trailing through windows...

adding a spur - am i doing it right?

Just re-read OSG, and stand corrected, i see the reference to regs 553-01-07, saying each socket outlet of a twin, or multiple socket outlet is regarded as one socket outlet.

adding a spur - am i doing it right?

If you can get to the back of one of the dbl sockets, why not take an "non-fused spur" wired directly into the terminals of the dbl socket. As this will be only protected by the main MCB / Fuse (32A )you should then (I wait to be corrected) use a 4mm sq T&E. as per Table 8A, Appx8 on site...

    What Happens Here On P-Day?

Just spoke with Bolton MBC - Asking for guidance on Part 'P', They basically told me that if i were to fit a kitchen, and do some electrical work, then, as a non- approved competent person, i would have to use a building note, for approval - the best bit is they said i would have to provide a...
