new power socket by outside door?

Forgot to mention yeah it's an 80A/30mA RCD in the consumer unit. It's the one that came with the consumer unit when I bought it around 2008/2009. I figured that the new socket needed to be properly fed and protected, not least because although we're only using it to power a small PSU for a...

new power socket by outside door?

Hi, thanks for your reply. Yes that all makes sense. The spur socket is about 10 feet away from the socket where I'd need to tap into the ring so it's not feasible to attach to the spur. I've had a wee browse around this topic and have noticed people mentioning soldering cables together as...

new power socket by outside door?

Hi, Are there any regulations regarding the positioning of power sockets near outside doors (socket would be indoors)? I would like to add a new socket in our back porch. It would be within a couple of inches of the door frame (hinge side) at a height of about 4 feet (just below the light...

    Honeywell CM927 wireless range

Hi, Does anyone know the wireless range of a CM927? Where I'm thinking of siting one will be about 5 - 6 metres from the receiver, and the signal will have to go through a double skinned (ie normal brick cavity) wall. This is because I'm thinking of putting the stat into our living room...

2A/3A fuse to discriminate with 16A b-curve MCB?

Hi, not at all. It's not our data centre nor was it our decision to have the sort of power supply they've given us. We're just a customer of the data centre, and have our own customers who want to co-locate stuff in the racks we rent, as well as us using the racks for our own kit. In effect...

2A/3A fuse to discriminate with 16A b-curve MCB?

Different phases in the same rack? I thought that doing that would have been considered a generally bad idea, though I'm happy to be proven wrong. We've looked at blades but not really considered them much at this stage. They don't help when a customer needs to plug in kit that they...

2A/3A fuse to discriminate with 16A b-curve MCB?

The amount the data centres charge for rack space makes it unviable to put only 10 or so servers in a rack. Customers wouldn't pay the resultant price to colocate or lease them, unfortunately, they'd just go to someone else cheaper. It does vary depending on the server spec. We try to stick...

2A/3A fuse to discriminate with 16A b-curve MCB?

I presume you're suggesting a UPS in order to absorb current surges such as this, rather than expecting it to continue to power the entire rack during the night if the breaker trips at, say, 3am? Have to admit I hadn't considered using a UPS for this, so good shout. I don't know about this...

2A/3A fuse to discriminate with 16A b-curve MCB?

Hi, I'm looking for a fuse (unless someone comes up with a better idea) to power a computer that, in the event of a short circuit fault in the power supply, will blow while not causing the 16A b-curve breaker that feeds the curcuit to also trip. The circuit is already drawing 12 - 16 amps...

    5 pence

That's hardly the point and besides, if memory serves me correctly a surprising quntity (something like 35%) of plastic bags used in this country end up blowing into the sea and creating havoc for sea life. And as someone else said, there's an environmental cost to producing them in the first place.

Law abiding person 1, Criminal robber 0

Nice to see proper justice for a change. The bit that tickled me, after previously mentioning that he was called "Vasilius Nikolakopoulos", was the phrase "thought to be from Greece" on page 2 :D

    How to remove shower trap

LOL reminds me of a friend who used to work in a newsagent. Told me that a kid walked in asking for a pack of 20 ciggies and a junior bus pass. He told the kid he could only have one and had to pick.

    How to remove shower trap

That's it - that's probably where I've heard of it from. I remember years ago a friend trying to decoke the exhaust on his RD125 with it. Didn't actually work but that was largely because the carefully shaped potato he'd shoved in one end to act as a bung didn't manage to stay in, as we...

    How to remove shower trap

Ah, caustic soda - I've heard of that - never really got on that well with chemistry though - physics was more my thing. Does it dissolve drain blockages as well as acid does?

    How to remove shower trap

Incidentally, a friend of mine says he puts soda salts down his once a week to stop any blockage from building up in the first place. What are soda salts, and are they better to use than acid?

    How to remove shower trap

I've put it all back together now and have put some new ceiling in. I only removed a small square of it to get access to the underside of the trap to see why it was leaking. It seems to be flowing pretty well now, and not leaking, so I'm happy with it as it is for now. Now that I've fixed...
