is hot water always on left?

Set the tap on max hot, if you can blow through the left tail but not the right, then hot should be on the left.

    Wanting to replace bath taps

Just to add to what stardanny said, the lockshield valve on the right hand side (in your last pic) is the balancing valve for the hot water coil.

is hot water always on left?

At least, if it's for the uk market it should... best check the manual.

is hot water always on left?

It looks like a thermostatic mixer, and yes it should have the hot supply on the left.

    Switching cold & hot taps?

If you have a look under the tap (take bath panel off) you will either find rigid pipework, or silver braided hoses to connect the taps. Do you have a hot water tank?

    Switching cold & hot taps?

My understanding is that a single spout is permissible provided that single check valves are fitted, but I'm quite happy to be corrected on that. Of course if the hot water comes from a cylinder, then the concentric spout would be best, but not so much of a worry with a combi. Swapping mixer...

    fittings confusion

I'd go for the 15mm compression at one end and a 3/4"f at the other end for a proper job. (the one I linked to first).

    fittings confusion

Aha yes, I forgot you were changing the tap. That is indeed 3/4".

    fittings confusion

Likely the 22mm is a hangover from a previous vented system. It's nothing to do with backflow and the 22mm can be safely removed if necessary. Just to clarify: it's difficult to tell by the pic but I think you have (unusally) 1/2 inch bath taps and if so, the link I gave you earlier would be...

And yes, you can buy flexi's with a washer each end.

    fittings confusion

The issue is that the compression joint on the iso valve will have a sharp edge where the taper for the olive is cut. So the washer is placed under too much load. I'd usually solve this problem by using a couple of spare (compression) radiator tails. But for the price of a couple of radiator...

    fittings confusion

If you did that, you'd be putting the washer against the taper of the compression fitting, and it would likely leak eventually. You've got it - for the sake of a few quid, it's probably best to buy a tube cutter ("pipeslice").

Belt AND braces - compression fitting ex-leak ??

Haha, never takes long to get a new nickname Dickie ;)

Belt AND braces - compression fitting ex-leak ??

Personally I'd dismantle and reassemble after smearing the olive with jointing compound (water hawk or similar) as it's easier to apply and makes for a better seal.

House Renovation - Conflicting Advice, Help please

I have had several combi's in different places and hopefully will never have to put up with one again!

    fittings confusion

Flexi hoses have been standard equipment on monobloc kitchen taps for years - the main reason they cause problems is on low pressure (ie, vented hot water) systems. As you have a combi it's mains pressure hot water, so unless your water pressure is particularly low, you'll be ok with 10mm bore...

Dishwasher Extension Hose - Where ???

I don't know where you could look at one but as the back to back connector is included I'd wager that it would fit (providing they supply the item in the photo).

    fittings confusion

Ignore the second part of the last post - (blonde moment) - they actually look like 1/2''bsp which is unusual for a bath

    fittings confusion

You can buy lengths of plastic in diy stores, cut it with a hacksaw and tidy up the ends with a stanley knife, hardly professional but it works (takes a bit of time though). They look like 3/4 bsp tap tails, and these would do the job...
