Saving Cash not breaking the regs....

I'd love to see how you'd terminate 4x 10mm² cables in a shower isolator!!

    Recommended metal backbox sizes

Sorry I meant logic plus.. The screws are really crap IMHO on them.. look nice but thats it.. As your in leeds, not that you'll care but Falcon do some BG sockets that are copies of the logic plus and they are quite nice. Price is quite friendly on the back pocket too. David

Correct way to extend 6 or 10mm cable?

Looks like youve got a problem then ;) People on here recommend crimps, I wouldnt. Id only recommend replacing the cable, As far as I'm concerned its the only real solution, especially on 6mm² and 10mm² cables. But you know what they say.. Opinions are Like ars$hole$... everyone has one...

    Recommended metal backbox sizes

I've been caught out in the past by people buying cheap dimmers, I fit 25mm as a minimum for all light switches, and 35mm where possible if its 2/3 gang and possibly 2 way.. 2 mins more chiseling = no return visit. Make sure your cooker isolators are double gang if using 10mm² cable -...

    Cables up a riser

Thats being a bit pedantic, Its still a non qualified electrician asking advice so wheres the difference in that? ;) :D Besides Id rather speak to someone on here, rather than someone that knows nothing about power factor correction, ACCB's, Harmonics etc... Sometimes a large company and...

    Shop lights keep tripping

assuming the earthing and Equpotential bonding is adequate however I'd assume the sunbeds are double insulated. If you are so concerned its heat and wont get a spark in, why dont you move the breakers, leaving a blanking plate between the 63A breakers to see if the air gap removes the...

    Cables up a riser

Cable is large due to VD, however load required is 250A per phase. Probably make sense to terminate in something like Merlin Gerin PowerPact4 and then run a more sensible sized cable to the incomer, having said that I could allways get them to look at a custom enclosure with an MCCB as the...

16 amp commando plug to 13 amp 3-pin extension?

FWIW, in most comms rooms / data centres the power is provided by radials normally fed in swa, in a mixture of 32A and 16A sockets.. Or at least the ones I work in.. Then throw in the odd TP+N Supply :) Forget chair legs, Have you ever dropped a heavy duty metal coated raised floor...

    Cables up a riser

Because their isnt sufficient capacity on the busbar trunking, and its also going to be fed via a generator and UPS in the LV switch room, where as the busbar isnt. HTH David

16 amp commando plug to 13 amp 3-pin extension?

You should really use a rack mount PDU with the sockets.. http://www.videkonline.co.uk/home.asp?page=SubSections&sectionID=153&chapterID=24 ive just thrown a load out as well!! Or you could get your electrician to get a metal clad socket such as...

    Cables up a riser

Yeah, Theres an electrical riser and a mech riser, This one has rising busbar trunking and the dist boards for the floor installed in here allready. Floor is metal grid, and lighting is provided. David

    Cables up a riser

If we theoretically run a 150mm² 4c LSF XLPE up a building riser, does it, or should it be terminated as a submain in the riser in something like a Merlin Gerin Panel Board with MCCB's or can it leave the riser and then run under the floor and be terminated directly into an ISOBAR 4c? Just...

    Spur from a spur

A spur from a spur is allowed AFAIK as long as it doesnt exceed a set number, maybe old regs Im thinking off though.. As far as Im concerned a spur off a spur or a ring is a source of evil as when people are adding stuff they dont tend to split the ring and check, they just assume its a ring...
