    The fuse would just handle that at 230v - what size of cable is existing? What was the power rating of the old cooker?

    Did you install the conduit or is it existing? If it's been lying unused (or there are any builders about ;)) it may be full of crap blocking the run? Use a snake with fairy liquid on - easier than pushing cable through there....

    Say the light you want is say 5 x 60W bulbs it is a straight replacement for the existing fitting - 10A breaker would be ok for upto 2300W (at 230v)

    Was it definetaly orange and white used? Wouldn't be the first time non standard colours were used.....could be a combination of faulty original master then wrong cables when you changed it over?

    What I was getting at is more info is required - how is it wired? Size of cable, rating of fuse/breaker - wattage of the light fitting etc
