Sanitary/Bathroom Fittings ontop of Viynl flooring?

IMHO its best to fit the vinyl flooring first. In addition to the benefits you mentioned, any fluid running down the sides of the sanitary ware will not end up under the vinyl. The vinyl will not tear due to the lack of any edges near to the porcelain. As you say, it will need to be lifted up...

    house sockets

Only the OP will know what the perceived load will be. All we know is that he wants to fit 3 sockets to one spur. Our only advice is that he cannot exceed 13A (with 2.5mm cable as a recognised minimum), ie 3Kw, for a prolonged period on that spur. His decision.

    house sockets

My understanding is that you can fit a fused connection unit with a 13A fuse on the spur and have an unlimited number of sockets supplied by that box.

    Which router

If your skirting board is painted white, you could use pre-painted white beading, which looks quite good. The white beading appears to be a part of the skirting rather than the ridiculous edge to the floor, that you get with the wood effect beading. It looks very good when used with moulded...

laminate floor gap between floor & skirting?

Its not acceptable. Snag it. If the floor is uneven, the laminate can be shimmed under the skirting board. If the skirting board is badly fitted, it can be refitted. These kinds of problems are expected (and resolvable) in older houses. They should not be expected in new extensions.

    Condensation in the loft

Does that mean that it evaporated (didn't soak into the timbers) between each occasion? If so, my view is that you have sufficient ventilation to dry up the moisture. Unless you put a de-humidifier or silica gel crystals up there, the air will always have moisture in it and as the temp goes up...

    Fat mans loft.......

Alex, The cost of doing the alterations might outweigh the need. Firstly, how often do you think stuff will really need to go up or come down from there? Does the stuff really need to be stored up there, if it is to go up and come down regularly? Regular opening of the loft hatch will cause...

    Bedroom walls

Presumably you will be fixing the cable(s) in accordance with the wiring regs before making good? If in doubt, check the wiki for the cable routing info.

How to actually do a floor right

When you lay the battens down onto the DPM without fixing them into position they are most probably not going to be level in both directions. Although the flooring above the battens will be fixed to them and will push them down into position, I anticipate slight vertical movement of the floor...

    Gerrard to escape clink....

Indeed, Zampa, that might well be the case. He would have told the Liverpool FC execs his side of the story and consequently they have publicly given him their support. This suggests to me that this is a storm in a tea cup. Holding him in custody for that length of time, for what he was...

    Roofs with condensation

I'm not convinced thats a good idea. If the bathroom is not ventilated, the ceiling plaster will absorb the moisture (depending on the surface protection) and it will eventually become mush. Without the membrane, the bathroom and the void above it (inter storey void or roof void should be...

    Screwfix item reviews..

From my perspective, as an experienced DIYer, if advice isn't challenged or contradicted within a day or so, it can be assumed to be reasonably acceptable advice. Therefore, it doesn't matter what the advisor's history is. Like all online forms of this nature, the reader has to make a judgment...

Middle East here we go again

When you fire a rocket from a densely populated area, you can expect a rocket to come back to that same area, under the concept of reasonable self-defence. If your kids get killed by the retaliation, well, the lesson to be learned is to not fire rockets from back yards and streets...

    Why bother working?

Well, thats where she is not telling the whole truth. If she got a job, her housing benefit would be trimmed to account for her income. It would not be completely removed. She would still be able to live in that flat, but she would be contributing to the rent. The fault within the system...

    Why bother working?

Joe, its too simplistic, not to mention morally wrong, to send people to cheaper towns just to save public money. Are you suggesting that the government should move people (at the taxpayer's expense, by the way) out of London every time they claim housing benefit above a pre-determined rate...

    21st Century hero

The soldiers on duty at Buckingham Palace are the same soldiers that are sent to fight the Taliban and the Iraqi insurgents. As part of the Household Division, they stand in the sentry boxes when they return to UK. Ceremonial duties play only one part in the soldier's life. I'm not...

    Why bother working?

Well, for two reasons: 1. self esteem. 2. State handouts in cash (housing benefit is paid directly to the landlord) are usually less than the average wage and never enough to pay for the better things in life; particularly in central London. Re the mother and kids in question: heres...

How to actually do a floor right

Is this for a house or a workshop? I don't think the advice you have received would be acceptable to the building control office if it is for a dwelling.

Sealing hot water tank lid to tank?

Namsag, Having seen the line drawings on the Elson site, it appears that the hot water tank will naturally warm up the water in the cold tank above it, thus causing some evaporation from the cold/luke warm water tank if the lid is missing. Anyway, the OP has solved his problem.

    21st Century hero

Softus: Yes, of course, it is the fault of the individual who signs up to a loan he cannot afford. That person must accept that there is nobody else to blame for his/her person financial failings. However, that individual can never be responsible for the bigger problem that he is one of...
