Chasing 15mm pipe into 100mm single brick wall

get some 20mm electrical conduit put the pipes in that. solder elbows at each end. you can get connectors like this for bar showers which look good. http://www.toolstation.com/shop/p68003 you only need to chase out 10mm as long as the pipes are below the top coat of plaster and your...

    Build over agreement

I think the crucial thing is when the extension was built. I was building my extension just before the govt transferred ownership to Wessex water. If the sewer was originally in private ownership there was no reason why you werent allowed to build over the drain. If the building work...

    Are new conservatories cold?

Build an extension, with big windows and french doors, If you want to go mad get a couple of veluxs for the roof. the roof has 150mm cellotex, double skin brick with 50mm cellotex, and wasnt that cold last winter without any heating. Still havent finished it yet. :(

    Rendering internal walls

Hi, This has kind of been asked before. But i want a nice hard wall for hanging kitchen cupboards off etc. so was thinking internal render, with a multifiish skim. The base is high density concrete blocks. Is a 12mm 4:1 scratch coat with a bit of waterproofer ok for a base coat to...

Serious fish eye on the camera. I agree drawing lines on the wall is easier but more damaging. Time to get a life. :D

Is levelling a subfloor before insulation necessary?

I wouldnt worry about 3mm, just do the big dips. I would have thought sand and cement would be ok, when its thin it breaks up, but as you have insulation over it will probably be ok, all your looking to do is provide some support for underneath the insulation.

Is levelling a subfloor before insulation necessary?

Depends what type of insulation your using? I Poured my garage slab, i dont think i was more than 20mm out over 12m. I used 50mm eps, which is quite flexible. If your really concerned, clip off the high, fill the low, and the put the insulation down. For a few bags of self leveling...

    Angle of roof extension

Look on the tile manufacturers website. The minimum pitches are all listed. Just use trig to calculate the angle of the pitch of the desired roof. tan-1 (opposite / adjacent) tan-1( height below window / 3.5m) or tan(minpitch) X desired length to give the minimum height of the...

    OSB3 for sub floor

My main reason for not wanting to use T&G is because i need to get heating pipes in. I thought i could in essence leave nice foot wide strips as access panels. my only reservations is that osb3 is a bit rough, i suspect the floor t&g versions are nicely sanded...

    Retaining Wall

Maybe a proper SE can tell you, the rebar sounds over kill, building regs state the wall must be 1/4 of the height its retaining. I would extend the fondation into the retained side, this would act as a cantilever. If you reallly want to go down the rebar route you could make a jig to...

    OSB3 for sub floor

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has used 18mm osb3 sheets for flooring instead of t&g chipboard. I would have thought it would be stronger, nut not sure what its like for pull out or through. Was planning on screwing the stuff down with floor board screws, so it can be lifted. Does it...

    Drilling an oversized joist

I think your now seeing my dileema! If i drill in the centre of the joist, @ 85mm down, and i was unlukcy enough for it to delaminate, the hole would form a notch in the top of the minimally sized timber. I think i will speak to the bco next he comes round, and see what hes got to say on...

    Drilling an oversized joist

Hi i understand the principle, But i could cut 60mm of the top of the joist, it would still be strong enough, the new middle of that timber would be different to the previous. I am still inclined to drill on the centre line of the original however. Cheers A

    Drilling an oversized joist

Hi guys, (Not sure if this is best in building or elecs) was wondering if people had any thoughts. I have some fully suported timber joists with a short maximum span of 1.8m. Trada tables say the recomended size is 39x120. I have 44x180mm timber n place. My feeling is that the...
