Dimplex Storage Heater - why did the elctrician do this..?

70 ohms, makes sense I suppose, that'd be around 750W per element. Was your friend experiencing any problems with the heater which required a call out, or was this just a scheduled inspection?

Using a PIR in the Bathroom - advice?

Hiya mate Thanks for replying. I was actually thinking of going for this one, which I thought was the same as you installed http://www.danlers.co.uk/pir/ceflpirsealed.html Up to 40 minutes, apparently? The draught thing is a bit concerning too, especially when spending £50~ !

    live electric

Exactly, I always understood it that 1000v tools are designed to offer protection in the event of accidentally coming in contact with a live circuit, rather than designed so you can safely work on live.

Economy 7 - Weird switching times

The code on the bill starts with 02, which I've found to mean E7. The low rate time period runs for exactly 7 hours. The tariff she signed up for came under Economy 7. All things considered, without calling up the electricity company and asking, I'm fairly confident in saying she's on Economy 7...

Economy 7 - Weird switching times

Yeah it's definitely E7, the bill says E7 and the other meters run on the service. I'll try and get some pictures later. I don't really want to get in to a debate of the 'rights and wrongs' of not declaring a dodgy meter time as whatever happens, I won't be telling the electricity company and...

Economy 7 - Weird switching times

Meh, it's not like it's clocking up more than 7 hours, or not clocking at all. It's simply clocking E7 hours for the wrong time period. How was I / my mum supposed to know the correct hours, when E7 was never explained to me / her when she moved in? In all fairness to you, if your meter...

Economy 7 - Weird switching times

Hi, Recently I decided to check out my the Economy 7 switching times at my mums flat, as I had a suspicion it wasn't switching on at the 11:30pm - 6:30am printed on the meter. Rather than wait up all night watching the meter, I decided to utilise the british gas energy monitor I had. The...

Replacing Economy 7 spur with a 13A socket

I'm not sure, I'll make a proper measurement later. And yes, I know the CB is rated to the cable, but I'll be tapping in to the existing 32A socket circuit so I won't be changing the breaker to accommodate the spur, which is where the issue lies.

    Low pressure from hot tap

I have the same problem. Would anyone be able to recommend a decent pump, preferably one that's fairly quiet too? Thanks :)

Replacing Economy 7 spur with a 13A socket

Hi there, My mother lives in a flat with Economy 7. One of the storage heaters was removed before she moved in, and so we're left with an Economy 7 spur. She has asked me if it's possible to convert the unused spur to a plug socket, so she can have a lamp there. I'm thinking of replacing...

Meter for measuring when electric supply is on..

It's a teleswitch. I've tried calling Southern Electric (the electric provider) but no go, maybe they didn't provide the meter but I've no idea who has. I'll try and grab the code later. Is it easy enough to work out from the code, or should I pass it on to you? ;) Thanks.

Meter for measuring when electric supply is on..

Hmmm I'm still trying to suss out a way to do this... Is there a voltmeter with serial output to a PC, for example? I could set up the VM to a Economy7 outlet, wire to a laptop, VNC in to the laptop and monitor when the VM reads 230v? Gotta be better ways surely? LOL

Single gang wall timer - does such a thing exist?

All electric heating yes, and I'd have thought that with the washing machine using a heating element and thus a lot of energy, the savings using during E7 period would be pretty good?

Single gang wall timer - does such a thing exist?

Hi, My mum has a washing machine and we'd like to set it to it only operates during the Economy 7 hours. I proposed using a plug in timer, however the space between the washing machine and the wall socket is very tight that a timer would probably not fit in there. Controlling the plug...

What's the point of the hot water inlet on washine machines?

Hi, My mum lives in a flat with no gas supply, and is running on Economy 7. She uses an electric shower so the immersion heater is rarely switched on. I've just been wondering what the point of the hot water inlet on the washing machine is. As far as I can tell, it draws in the right...
