adding a spur - am i doing it right?

I do it as you say with a junction box or via the back of the socket, best still keep it in the ring.. I'd disagree about going via an FCU. David

T&E not outside but in a shed / barn / workshop convers

We worked out the voltage drop, using a single phase load, and set the supply voltage as 240. (I know this should be done at 230) This spreadsheet contains 'accurate' cable information as it used by the local REC's, even calculates their ELZ. Only difference is its using a pvc cable where...

T&E not outside but in a shed / barn / workshop convers

How do you work this out? Ive just checked some figures using 16mm copper with my dads spreadsheet that he uses for network design and we dont have a problem with 16mm cable.. Problem is I dont have enough cable data for cables im looking at.. Split concentric current rating is even better!

I disagree with the above comment, any pro plumber would use whatever was appropriate at the time!

T&E not outside but in a shed / barn / workshop convers

My gut feeling is 35mm would be more appropriate. Its to provide power to a shed, come workshop.. main load is a 2.2kw motor on some ramps.. Im guessing at 100m from the supply point but havent measured it.. Eitherway at this rate the cable is going to have cost more than the fookin ramp...

T&E not outside but in a shed / barn / workshop convers

there isnt, but I think we are going to go with SWA, just trying to find the best prices for 100m of 3 core 10mm or 3 core 6mm. Would prefer the 10mm. David

    Spot Welder

I just use a type b 20A breaker first and see what happens, my compressor is the only thing that needs a type c. My welders dont have a problem. David

    Convince him he needs help.

Photos would help, but certainly the REC should provide the Earth connection.. that sounds like a DIY PME installation.. Also PME and No Bonding is death waiting to happen.. You also forgot the lack of RCD.. Also IMHO.. there is no real justification for a new socket installation to be...

    Simple question

conduit isnt required.. 50mm from ends and 50mm from above and below iirc.. pin it under joists? Ie you have access to crawl under?? dont pin it when running through joists.. I also dont pin it when running parallel The wires can run together, but they shouldnt be tight when running...

Stripping Outer & Inner with 25mm Cable

Leaving the inner showing outside of the CU would be breaking regs would it not?? I also think it looks untidy.. Our REC, strip the cable right through to the conductor leaving no colour visible then fit those little grey ends and two red cable ties. David

Would this pass inspection? - Part II

damocles (sp) you are correct non of the conductors insulation should be visible (cant remember the proper terminology) You can Get two 1.5mm Cables into them style fittings with a little planning and pursuasion.. I will never try again though... was just loathed to use Junction boxes...

T&E not outside but in a shed / barn / workshop convers

just wondering :) anybody got a formular (sp) for calculating voltage drop on singles in 20mm conduit.. Also, how do you size the earth cable for the curcuit.. bear with me.. As if I used say 10mm singles I'd be guessing at around 4-6mm for earth however it would be powering a secondary...

T&E not outside but in a shed / barn / workshop convers

Just wondering if I can use singles or T&E in conduit in a shed / barn -> now workshop conversion?? or would this be classed as outside??? Trying to limit the cost of SWA!

    Spot Welder

I have a spot welder so can advise you here :D A 16A industrial socket with a 20A Type C Breaker using 2.5mm t&e (depending on distance) 4.0mm if you want overkill.. will be fine. They WILL NOT run from a 13A Plug without blowing the fuse.. (i know as mine came with a 13a plug on it :o...

Stripping Outer & Inner with 25mm Cable

Agree with above comments.. I run a score around with a knife and then cut down from score to end of cable to help split it off.. I then Put the bend in with a pair of pliers on the end of the cable then cut that bit off :D I use cable cutters to trim the red or black and then square the end...
