Insulation and Loft Boarding - Condensation Questions

Thanks for the reply. No one specifically told me, I’ve just seen it written a bunch of places, including on this forum. Some of those places were presumably trying to sell loft leg solutions and similar, but also seemingly impartial blogs and posts in here mention not boarding directly onto...

Insulation and Loft Boarding - Condensation Questions

Hey guys, I've read that you shouldn't board directly onto the joists with insulation inbetween them because of condensation. I've also read that you should use the loft legs (or similar) to provide a gap, which you can then fill with more insulation up to the recommended minimum of 270mm. If...

Loft boarding and Insulation questions/advice - HELP!

Bump to see if anyone else can offer any input on my long rambly post? Also, if anyone has advice on how best to install the board insulation per jonbey's suggestion above? Thanks

Loft boarding and Insulation questions/advice - HELP!

Hmmm, that's an interesting point. I guess i just assumed a loft would be more suitable, but perhaps not. I guess i should move the photos and paperwork!

Loft boarding and Insulation questions/advice - HELP!

Funnily enough I was just reading another post on here about board insulation and wondering the same. That's a really good thought, thanks. Do you know how I'd use it? The post I read said to just lay the loft boards on top but that doesn't seem right to me - wouldn't the insulation board...

Loft boarding and Insulation questions/advice - HELP!

Hey guys. Apologies for the long post but wanted to be thorough, plus I am somewhat verbose at the best of times! Hoping someone can help me. Looking to board and potentially insulate my loft, but I have a bunch of questions and concerns! I'm a competent-ish DIYer, but have a tendency to...

    Speaker wire in-wall

no idea! :? i'd guess so though. the outputs for the fronts have screw-down terminals, but possibly take a plug as well (there's a hole in the screw cap, if that makes sense?). The other speakers are all the little spring-loaded ones though. As are the terminals in the backs of the speakers...

    Speaker wire in-wall

Thanks Feynman. So do you think the 42 strand wire i've got is good enough for a 4-ish metre run? It's certainly thicker than the stuff that came with the amp system that i had been using! I've also got a 10m reel of Shark 12AWG speaker wire that's REALLY thick (no idea how many strands), but...

    Speaker wire in-wall

Good info, thanks Sam! So, there's only going to be about a metre of cable behind the plasterboard (x2), and the holes won't go through to the next room or outside, only into the cavity and then back out again. So is it fine to use normal speaker cable in this case? I have labgear/philex...

    Metal pattress in drylined wall?

Sorry for the lack of update - have been crazy busy trying to get the house ready before child no 2 arrives! (10 days overdue!) It sounds ridiculous when you put it like that! Basically I didn't need 2 sockets there, but thought I'd convert as it may prove useful. If it's too much...

    Speaker wire in-wall

Hi guys, hoping someone can help. I'm hiding some speaker wire behind my skirting boards for my surround sound, and want to conceal the run up to my speakers (roughly 1m from floor to speaker). House is dry-lined, so figure so figured I'd make a hole at speaker height, and another at skirting...

    Metal pattress in drylined wall?

Thanks so much all, you've been loads of help. Options nicely summarised by sparkwright: Agreed - definitely won't match my existing sockets, so this option is out. I thought RF meant a back box converter, rather than a front plate. Something to fit either side of the existing single knock-out...

    Metal pattress in drylined wall?

Hadn't thought of that. Can you get flush double converters? Have only seen surface mount ones. I'd rather a flush single than a surface double!

Wiring 2 gang 1 way light switch

Thanks guys. Does the black with the red tape not need to treated differently? The old switch had this going into one of the commons, not both reds?

Wiring 2 gang 1 way light switch

Afternoon all, Cracking on with changing over the rest of my sockets (all done no problems) and switches after my issues here: http://www.diynot.com/forums/electrics/metal-pattress-in-drylined-wall.400764/ Unfortunately, I've run into a problem with my lounge light switch. It's 2 gang...
