    a cautionary tale

Thx for that John :D The MD of the Parent Co is aware of this, has an original & fake, he doesn't seem interested though. By the way, any subtext inferred from my use of capitals is purely coincidental.

    a cautionary tale

Here is the latest on this sad tale:- The Parcel Company head of security phoned to tell me that due to the "van driver" sticking to his story and a tracking printout, they can go no further! The police are as much use as a chocolate teapot. The Despatch Company has now been allowed a whole...

    Lime mortar mix

As I said before, you can produce a lime putty with it (hydrate),--of sorts, used it in muck & for cornice work. I also used it neat!! as an external render finish, just to see it was still sound years later when I knocked it down. :) :

    Tesco fuel stations

I think that the use of the superfluous or possessive "s" is an acceptable trait of English. It denotes that the company Tesco are owners of the shop referred to & so is arguably a "double possessive" whereby the apostrophe may be inserted wherever ( no rude suggestions here please). So if...

wet concrete floor and evidence of damp

Couple of things:- ideally the dpc should be at the same level or below the finished floor level but not above. If it is then the brickwork below is open to the ground & may transmit damp. The next question is there a membrane in the floor? It seems to me that the pipe from upstairs (4" I...

wet concrete floor and evidence of damp

Thats a consideration, but I can't visualise the waste pipe from above going into your concrete floor. Which waste is it, a toilet waste? If it's in plastic?? how did it crack?

    Only a wedding

Well that provoked a response :D The sun does shine in London, oddly enough I think that this area has more sunshine though, certainly drier than Manchester. Asparagus is prob more a Norfolk thing, round here its cabbage, spuds & cereal. This time of year, the sprouts are the top crop- got...

No,on reflection, you're right kirkgas, the union of a chinless inbred Germano-Greek, with an upper class wannabe is justifiable reason to lose a days pay.

    Lime mortar mix

I'd go with Woody on this, it's not a lime mortar with cement. A proper lime mortar will harden sufficiently & "breath" better than a cement mix. Personally, I'd use lime putty, its far better, but I have used bagged lime slaked to a putty then mixed, it's not pukka but it does the job. Don't...
