    suspension problems

I agree, the Xantia I owned 3 years ago was a great car, I had no problems with hydraulic leaks, only had to change the spheres (ride gone hard). The car was great for towing. I think people have a problem with Citroen's, but it's generally because they don't understand them. johnwr

    THE M.O.T RIP OFF

With computerised MOT's I think they have to take approx 30 mins. To do a proper test I think 10mins on a rotten old Fiesta/Nova/Corsa (chav wagons) is not long enough, but a fairly new car then 10-20 mins may be possible. A few years ago I took an old Hillam Imp for it's test for a customer...

    Fiesta brakes/brake pedal freezing

If it is actually freezing then the brake fluid must be changed straight away. it's the first time I have ever known this happen. I think you need to have a good look round the brake pedal / master cylinder area just to make sure nothing else is causing the problem. regards johnwr

    fiat stilo service

I have looked in my oldish (2001) autodata book and it doesn't show how to do it on Stilo, but all the others seem to use a similar method. 1. switch ignition off 2.press button on dash and hold. 3. switch ignition on 4. keep pressing the button for 10 seconds. the display will now read 0...

    suspension problems

Who the hell wants a car that wobbly's about like a jelly on a plate or Jodie Marsh's t*ts. The origonal post was about overly firm suspension, I think you should keep to the origonal theme and not wonder off into fantasy world. :D regards johnwr

    Wood you?

I saw a wooden spoiler on a knackered sierra a couple of years ago, the guy who made it had still to form the aerofoil sections. It was made from 6*1. It looked like he bought the wood from B&Q (full of knots and not very straight)

    suspension problems

What a complete waste of time, it will make you look like a 17 year old chav and ruin a good car as well as spoiling the handling by adding even more weight. :D

    Servicing, what should be expected?

When I service cars I follow the Autodata servicing recomendations, normally the service book suppliied with the car a generally too vague. The "garage" should have mentioned that the belt needed replacing, but I think you should have checked that they did all the jobs they where supposed to do...

    peugeot 405

I would check the engine mountings especially the one underneath the engine, also check the gear linkage. If that dosn't work then it may need a replacement gearbox. regards johnwr

Vauxhall corsa 1.2 - brake problem

A rough check to see if the rear brakes need adjusting is if the handbrake travels a long way before it starts to work. First slacken off the handbrake cable, then adjust the brakes, then finally adjust the handbrake cables, it's amazing how many time you see someone adjusting the cables and...

Difficulty starting Transit in cold weather

Darude, Transit 2.5L diesel engines are direct injection and do not need any heater plugs. They usually start up very quickly, so there must be either a fuel problem (injection pump) or lack of compression. regards johnwr

Vauxhall corsa 1.2 - brake problem

It sounds like a master cylinder problem, if you press the brake pedal very gently (when parked and no hand brake on) if the pedal goes to the floor then thats your answer. Hope this helps regards johnwr

Difficulty starting Transit in cold weather

Transit diesels can have injection pump problems, this causes bad starting, but it usually bad starting any time, and gets worse until it fails to starts. Have you checked the compression pressures.

    suspension problems

Being an older boring git, I would have thought the P306 gti handled pretty well in standard form, by lowering it by 50mm the you have obviously lost a lot of suspension travel. It sounds like you have very little travel left. You live and learn.
