    17th complying

I'd agree, and he also implys that installations, to an earlier edition of the regs would be unsafe. But er..... What about about the statement (aint to sure about the wording but something like) 'non-compliance of an existing installation to BS7671 : 2008 amended to 2008, but to an earlier...

    Plug sockets on skirting

ok RF point taken. But that does depend on quality crimps, and a proper ratchet crimper as you know. oh and the quality of copper you crimp.

    Plug sockets on skirting

Has anyone read this, http://www.hager.co.uk/files/download/0/2281_1/0/JunctionBoxGuide.pdf I cant see how they could publish something like this if it wasn't compliant, also I have noticed that they have been mentioned in NIC and Elecsa seminars as being acceptable. One good thing is...

    17 edition consumer units

Brought this subject up at my last annual assessment, I was told dual rcd boards are seen as compliant ( as long as you arranged the circuits sensibly ie. upstairs sockets on same rcd as downstairs lights etc) However I would, as a minimum, always fit a high-integ dual rcd board.

    Electrics to Garage!!

This really depends on the exact distance, I mean its one thing to work what swa you need, but really even then, we dont know the length of the final circuits connected to the cu at the end of it, as this also has to be taken into consideration because of further voltage drop As a very rough...

    Electrics to Garage!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO  40mtrs Voltage Drop??? Lights (ie 3%) Dinga 4mm is not suitable for 40 amp at 40mtrs infact its probably only capable of about 20 - 22 amps with a voltage drop of about 10.5volts at that distance

    Electrics to Garage!!

If you give that exact distance it will be easier to tell, If no lights where involved 4mm might be ok to give you a 20 amp supply. But one things for sure, A 40 AMP MCB IN YOUR EXISTING CU IS NO PROTECTION WHATSOEVER FOR 4MM OVER THAT DISTANCE

Would an electrician accept this way of a rewire?

With option a or b you'll still have to pay somebody elses labour (the electricians) to check over the work and sign it off. You might as well go with option c, you can get the notification form off your LABC website it usually costs about £120 for initial notification, (this can vary...

    downlighters... fire worry!

The manufacturer might say 10mm terminations only, but I can really assure you the manufacturer would not say, contravine BS7671 and all common sense to feed this shower with a 10mm cable, even when because of its method of erection it cant carry the load necessary to run it. Thats Pathetic Mate
