hi John, Thanks for the reply. Can you be @rsed to briefly explain a “radial” please, and how it’s ok in this situation ?? And how, if everything is rated ok, another spur can be added ?? (All wires are standard ring main 2.5mm twin and earth) Attached is a pic of the circuit breaker in off...

    Garage mains wiring query ??

Hi :), Confident and competent DIY'er here with a query about my garage mains, hope someone can help please ?? I had an extension done a couple of years ago, and part of that was a new garage. The qualified electrician did all the wiring, including a new fuse box which lives in the...

    Yorkshire fittings advice please.

Well, I finally got round to my little plumbing job using Yorkshire fittings….adding a panel radiator to the bathroom :( Although I was soooo tempted, I resisted the urge to add a little bit more solder to the Yorkshire fittings, and guess what….no leaks (y):p Just for complete disclosure...

    Yorkshire fittings advice please.

It’s just the way I was taught by someone who was supposed to know what he was doing….as a “guarantee not to leak” sort of thing. Lesson learned though, I’ll give it a go without ;)

    Yorkshire fittings advice please.

Because I had a lot to do I invested in a good quality Rothenberger torch and blue gas bottle. I believe having that, and being able to control the flame so well, helped me a lot (y)

    Yorkshire fittings advice please.

When you’re not doing it every day, it’s definitely hard work for a DIY’er. Talk about pressure to get it right !! :p. I’ve managed to do multiple radiators and pipe runs, but the joints are a disgrace :ROFLMAO:. Just shows what a skilled job it is to do right. You can see why people resort to...

    Yorkshire fittings advice please.

I think I must have seen a few people on YouTube adding a bit more solder once the ring has appeared just to make sure, so I’ve taken that on as being gospel. Lesson learnt, and I’ll try it without this time and report back next week (y) I’m always meticulous in cleaning the pipe and the...

    Yorkshire fittings advice please.

Unfortunately, due to my lack of skill, I throw liberal amounts of flux at every fitting which I believe has caused “issues” later  And I know Yorkshire (or solder ring) fitting are expensive, but there’s no way I have the skills to use end feed  Thanks for the advice (y)

    Yorkshire fittings advice please.

Thanks for the reassurance, that’s just what I wanted to hear (y) I’ll try and resist adding that little bit of extra solder ;)

    Yorkshire fittings advice please.

Hi :), As a competent and confident DIY’er I’ve got some more plumbing to do in 15mm copper. I only work with Yorkshire fittings, as it’s much easier for the unskilled :giggle:. I can’t say I’ve ever done a professional looking job, I always overcompensate by adding more than enough flux and...

Should I insulate 15mm speedfit pipe or not ??

Hi again :) Hope someone can help me with this one quickly please (laminate flooring is going back in tomorrow)….. I finally got my JG speedfit pipe in to replace the leaking copper. As you can see, it’s in a tight channel cut out of the concrete floor in the new kitchen extension (fully...

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

Yeah, I’m up in Hartlepool. Our water is very hard. And I’ve got a combimate fitted. As mentioned previously, I’ve never had an issue in 23 years, and still have 23 year old copper in the house. I just think this modern stuff is sh!te, but I’m only a DIY’er, not a pro, so I don’t really know...

JG plastic pipe clip distances ?

Thanks for the info (y) :) I was told JG was the best, and that’s what I was after to hopefully stop another leak. Always appreciate good advice though, cheers (y);)

JG plastic pipe clip distances ?

Hi, just a quickie please…… After a copper pipe leak nightmare, I’m finally resorting to 15mm JG plastic pipe instead  JG recommend clips every 300mm on horizontal runs. Is this overkill or about right ? Cheers :)

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

Thanks for the info :) I’ve sent a sample off to Wednesbury, see what they make of it. But after only two years after installation ?? I just don’t get it ?? And with more of the same copper upstairs, in both the heating and hot / cold water systems, it’s only a matter of time before that...

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

Here’s a couple of pics of the same pipe a bit further along and cut open. You can see the “lump”, and when cleaned off there’s a pinhole all the way through

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

I’ve been working with copper pipe as a DIY’er for 23 years, and the new stuff is sh!te compared to the old stuff. You can physically see the wall is thinner :(
