    Leaks in copper pipe…..

Wow….this is a new one on me on a perfectly straight length  I can’t cut it open to show you, as it’s getting sent off to Wednesbury for them to examine. However, looking inside the pipe, there are little “lumps” in it.

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

I can absolutely assure you there has always been pin hole corrosion on copper tube. It is guaranteed for 25 year but its almost a waste of time If you try to claim you need a section that has manufacturers name stamped on it. As its only marked ever Mt your normal out of luck! We were for...

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

I’m leaving it all in place at the mo, until a plumber has come and had a look. I’ll cut the section once it comes out and report back

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

The concrete in the kitchen was bone dry for months before the brand new copper pipe went in. It’s on a brand new extension, with all relevant dampproofing, etc. However, the pin hole leak that I found last month in the vertical pipe in the garage was leaking 1.5 litres a day over many, many...

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

My multimeter only has 600v and 200v on the AC side of things, but there is no voltage at all showing on either.

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

Just to clear up the earth thing, here’s a couple of pics of my mains elec in to the fuse board. It is earthed, but from the incoming mains. There’s no physical earthing rod in use.

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

Will do, just going through my options at the mo as to whether trycopper again, or use plastic.

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

He did explain it, I think the earth bonding comes in with the main electrical wires from outside the house on the electricity board side of things. It’s all modern cabling. Way above my head, but he’s a qualified electrician.

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

Although I hate the stuff, I’m really losing my faith in modern copper, and I’m thinking of using plastic pipe under the laminate. This will eliminate the corrosion risk, and can be done with no joints. There’s no chance of rodent infestation, so it may be the answer ??

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

I appreciate that reply, but it is well beyond my comprehension  There is no physical earthing strip to my MCB, the electrician said it’s not needed, and the only electrical connection to the copper would be through the Worcester oil fired combi boiler.

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

Could it be I’ve just had a bad batch of copper pipe ?? The manager at Screwfix said he never gets any complaints about Wednesbury pipe.

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

For what it’s worth, and beyond my DIY understanding…..my electrician who recently put in a new MCB said there was no earthing necessary on my pipes, or MCB, etc, due to the type of electric cabling coming into the house.

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

No…..all the copper was covered in bog standard foam insulation. And thankfully the laminate had plastic sheet under it, or that would be ruined too

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

Thanks for the reply (y) :) On two year old Wednesbury copper pipe, on a cold water tap supply ?? I just don’t see how two year old copper pipe can have holes in it in that short a space of time ?? I’ve never had any issues with copper pipe in the twenty three years I’ve been using it in...

    Leaks in copper pipe…..

Can anyone explain this to a confident and competent DIY’er please ?? It’s a bit long winded….sorry. A couple of years ago I ran 15mm copper pipe along a cut out channel on the edge of a concrete floor in the kitchen, which was subsequently covered with laminate. Today I heard a faint hiss in...

    Cutting MDF window board ??

Thanks again for all the advice everyone, much appreciated (y):)

    Cutting MDF window board ??

Well….it might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but this is how I like my window sills. No overhang, straight edge, flush with the wall. Looks nice and modern, which is what I was going for :) Unfortunately, it doesn’t look as good as I hoped, as the paint I was using is very hard to work...

    Cutting MDF window board ??

As mentioned before, the boards come as bull nosed, and I want a straight edge facing. I like things right, and get frustrated when they aren’t perfect, but I’ve also found that once something is done and you’re not focusing in on the little imperfections, things look good enough in general

    Cutting MDF window board ??

Yeah, I thought about that too, as well as using my long spirit level as a straight edge, but with the board only being 24cm wide, needing to cut it to about 22cm wide, and the saw plate being quite wide with the motor housing overhanging, it just wouldn’t work

    Cutting MDF window board ??

Yeah, the way I had it set up I was stretching right over my work bench with the circular saw, doing it freehand on a board 1.8m long !!. Not ideal, and I couldn’t do it without changing position. No doubt the pro’s will be cringing, lol  A table saw would be ideal, but not worth...
