    Combi Boiler wireless thermostat problems

433 MHz is in all probability the problem..Many many different users use this frequency, which is allocated on a primary user basis to the military with radio amateurs as secondary users. I have just had a combi boiler fitted myself & as a radio amateur had the control hard wired for this very...

    Sky Set Top Box Issue

If you have tested it & found a short. And by the sounds of it, that is in the Caox..You have checked the first places to find that short, both ends....BUT it's not the only places that a short can be..It could be water ingress, a cut, something has chewed the coax..Even melted coax..It's a long...

    A very strange freeview problem

The wiki link to QRM is not very accurate for two reasons. First the Q codes are both a question & an answer, so it could mean are you experiencing, or I am experiencing, but it could also be used as a statement of fact in that I have co channel or electrical QRM etc etc. Secondly QRM does not...

    A very strange freeview problem

It's called front end over load & if seen on an oscilloscope, you would see instead of one peak, many. The receiver is being overloaded & it does not have to be caused by the signal you want to receive. One common cause of front end overload on TV's is caused by the very poor quality pre...

    A very strange freeview problem

A very long list of things can & do cause severe interference (QRM) to other devices. PC's, switch mode power supplies, Boilers, solar panels, fish tank equipment, or any one of a hundred other causes. But by far the worse offenders are PLT units which produce RF pollution at 10,000 times the...

    A very strange freeview problem

You don't have any new internet over the mains type devices do you?? Or anything similar?? These things are known to be very dirty & to as a result cause all sorts of trouble (interference) to anything & everything. I don't think it would cause the TV to drop out, but a poor quality broadband...

    A very strange freeview problem

Digital communication is not as easy to diagnose problems on as with analogue & without a spectrum analyser it is virtually impossible for many issues. As with digital the signal is either strong enough to be read or there is no picture as a result. With analogue, weak signals & many other...

    Portable DAB radio

One of the reasons that these power adaptors are used is that they are easy & cheap to source & that this means that one radio can be supplied all over the world with no modifications. Just with an adaptor that meets that particular countries requirements. Be that 2 0r 3 pins, 50 or 60hz, 120...

    Speakers

As above. Buying audio equipment, unless you know exactly what you are buying & want, is not ideally done online. No matter how good or honest the company. As there is no substitute for hearing what you are buying & some real time two way communication with someone who knows what they have...

TV aerial prob - see pics!

The only problem with a splitter is that it would insert a significant loss into the system as obviously each output will get a percentage of the output. Plus of course the splitter it's self has an insertion loss. Average insertion loss if each output is used & allowing for the splitters...

    tv switches its self off

I'm no TV engineer, but it sounds like it's a very common LCD TV problem. Inverter board failure. These are replaceable & such a common fault that second hand ones are available on ebay.

    tv switches its self off

Is this switching off from a button in the set?? If so I had a similar problem with a broken TV I acquired for free recently. The problem was that the set button had built up grime around it & all it took to fix the "broken TV" was for it to be removed from the mains & for the switch to be...

Advice on Sky / TV cabling to keep all options open

The more coax you use the more signal you loose. Each 3 dB is a loss of half the signal & 6 to 9 dB is real easy to loose with signals at that frequency. So thats 75% to 87% of your signal gone. Also each connector in line is capable of loosing at least 0.2dB to 0.5 dB per connector & thats if...

    Humming/buzzing speaker

Try a couple of loops of the speaker cable on a clip on ferrite core, as close to the speaker as you can. This will isolate any picked up EMF's from your speakers, also buy a filtered socket so any mains carried noise is not transferred to your system. What you are describing is sadly VERY...

    No signal on Aerial Cable

The lead between the wall socket & the test meter/TV sounds to be at fault.. Start by making a visual check, make sure there are no shorts between inner core & braid & that everything is tight & as it should be then use a multi meter & check for continuity on both the inner core & outer braid at...

    Cooker switching off.

Well it looks to have been fixed. I replaced the thermostat this morning & gave it a good test & it all seems to be working as it should. Thanks for the suggestions & help. It all helped me to get it worked out in my mind.

    Cooker switching off.

Yes the fan is working. Everything appears to be working normally until, everything switches off. Having done the tests this afternoon, I now think grill & oven appear to be over heating, or at least running much hotter than they were & it's when things get too hot, that it all switches off.

    Cooker switching off.

Thanks, I have checked everything through today & it all looks OK, no loose or damaged wires, that I can see. I did a check this afternoon & the oven gets excessively hot & everything then goes off at about 20 to 25 minutes. I then heard the oven click, thermostat??? And everything worked...

    Cooker switching off.

Our cooker an old Tenolec Pro60estf has just developed a problem. Everything switches off, light, fan, oven, grill, nothing works at all on the selector switch when the oven gets hot. If I leave it to cool, it all works again, until hot. I am sure it must be the thermostat, but I can't work...
