    Shed Foundations

What if I've bought a metal shed, with no integral floor? I like the idea of a sand/slab base which would also double up as the floor, or will it let lots of damp thru, in which case would I have to put down a dpm sheet first? It's only a 7'x8' for keeping the lawnmower and other...

Internally insulating a small flat roof

If you really want to use expanding foam this might help avaoid plaster board bulges....If you drill enough holes with a hole saw the excess foam will escape. You'll have lots of holes to fill though... Personally I'd take the plaster board down, I'm no expert though  .

    What van do you use?

I've got an R reg (1997) T4 transporter. The popular 1.9 TD short wheel base version. Bought it in April, unfortunately just couldn't afford a newer one, didn't like the idea of a contract either, don't like owing people money. They are widely renound to be ultra reliable. Unfortunately mine...

What paint to paint exterior plastic soil pipe

That sounds nice and straight forward! I was worried I'd have to sand down the entire pipe first 8) Would a bog standard exterior gloss do the job? I don't want it just peeling off in a couple of years

Want new CU fitted, will old circuits require updating?

What you say about the Wylex box makes perfect sense as the fusebox is at least 4m away. :) So it sounds to me that as long as I find a reasonable (certified/qualified) sparky I should be able to run my own cables circuit by circuit, saving the sparky from doing the time consuming messey but...

Can I use existing GAS flue liner for WOOD burner?

We've currenly got an old gas fire & backboiler in the livingroom fireplace of our 1860s cottage. There is a flexible metal flue up the entire chimney. We are having the central heating completely ripped out soon and a new combi boiler installed in the utility room extension. So we would like...

What paint to paint exterior plastic soil pipe

This might sound a bit silly, but we've had the soil pipe rerouted down the outside of the house to free up space in the bathroom and utility. The house is painted white (old cottage) and the pipe is grey. We want to paint the pipe so it is less obvious - can it be done? And if so what paint...

worried about the weight of loft boarding

I've read lots of the posts about adding 1"x3" timbers crossways to the ceiling joist, which will add strength, allow extra depth of insulation, cables etc, before boarding with loft chipboard. We've got an 1860s cottage with original roof timbers. Which have signs of woodwork, so presumably...

Want new CU fitted, will old circuits require updating?

Thanks very much for your considered replies. So does that mean I am actually 'allowed' to connect the ring I have started to put in to the existing old radial circuit, presumably by simply connecting the two tails to a nearby junction box? I'm not going to, as it seems silly - I could have...

Want new CU fitted, will old circuits require updating?

Hi, I would really appreciate the advice of more qualified/knowledgeable people than me  about how to go about our house's electrical updating- thanks in advance! We have a c1860s cottage with c1900 and c1960/70 extensions. At present there are two traditional fuseboxes which look like...
