am saying that a combi requires a cleaner system than an open vented boiler because of the plate to plate, looks like we both agree on the same thing, maybe i didn't put it very clearly. :oops: :oops:

I completely disagree with the last part of your statement, modern combi's require the system to be a lot cleaner than say an open vented boiler does, whilst you would need to powerflush for either, the combi will always be more susceptible to damage from a dirty system

well, combi's are ok but when they break down you tend to lose everything, they require a really clean heating system, however you do mention an electric shower, that is always a good idea to have one Personally am not a massive combi fan, you will probably need a lot bigger gas pipe, combi's...

what is the problem you are having with the boiler? are you gas safe? Just I notice you have asked a few questions about other boilers in the past. :?:

belive so, I got one when I did mine but it doesn't show on my gas safe card! I best be looking into why that is! :wink:

my own personal opinion is you shouldn't touch boilers full stop unless your a RGI, sometimes when I have a boiler cover off I see things, the signs that things are not right. You can certainly work on it if your not touching anything gas related but sometimes it is not so clear cut, take...

I would suspect the plate to plate heat exch is dirty, no need to get a new boiler

the regulator is before the meter, you have to appreciate that to get a gas bill 5 times the norm would mean a massive leak on your side of the meter, we are talking the kind of leak that causes explosions It has been a cold winter!! how much was your gas bill?

sounds like the RPZ valve, really common for these to go, also a good idea while you have it apart to check the filling loop, it's the blue tap plastic thing, both are prone to failure but are relatively cheap to replace

no need to turn the gas off, however please do make sure to turn the power of to the boiler :D

yes they are for isolating the boiler but they normally leak if you operate them. Sounds like the diaphragm has gone

i wouldn't touch any of the isolation valves on the boiler, you might end up with leak city! does the boiler work when you turn a tap on? if it does then it might be the shower valve that is the problem, it also sounds like you have not isolated the cold inlet

if it keeps going above 3 bar then yes!
