    Ongoing window/condensation problems....

Thanks John. I'm not too sure what the neighbours would think if I'm outside at 3am bowing down to listen to a leaking pipe :ROFLMAO: Great advice - I'll post in the plumbing section, but will be back once I've got a reply. Cheers buddy.

    Ongoing window/condensation problems....

Thanks guys for your help. Crank39 - Although I have the same issues of constantly dripping wet condensation , water running down the glass and tools rusting in the cellar, I don't have conservatory. Tanking is impossible JohnD - I do have two small windows in the cellar, so I guess an...

    Ongoing window/condensation problems....

The dehumidifier is in the hallway with all doors to each room open and the windows are closed. Your right, I did mention the damp basement earlier, but was told it's normal to have high humidity due to the basement not being heated. As I've already suspected, I think of all this humidity in...

    Ongoing window/condensation problems....

Hello again guys. I've now had a window expert whom has checked the windows. He can't find any fault with them. He advised that since the humidity levels in the house were too high, I should try the following: 1. Open the windows full during daytime and in lock-mode at night - I have tried...

    Stove questions.....

I'm in a smokeless zone though, so what other option do I have other than to burn smokeless coal/wood? Also I've ordered the Dunsley Highlander 5 slimline and will install the 316 flue liner. Is this okay?

    Stove questions.....

Hello guys, just to let you know, I'm going ahead and installing the stove end of next week. I don't know if I have done right, but I've order 30+ bags of smokeless coal from wickes to get me started. If anyone knows of any other offers or ways I could get more wood/coal, then please let me...

    Stove questions.....

I'm not sure what to believe right now, to be honest. Some news articles state he's asking for a total ban, but Guardian in THIS article, states:

The worry now is that in the near future they may totally ban wood-burning stoves or at least force owners to upgrade to a more efficient version.

    Stove questions.....

Hi guys. Really sorry for not replying sooner. I've been very poorly, so haven't been on the computer. Thanks for all your replies. I don't know if you've heard, but today's news is that Sadiq Khan is proposing a total ban on wood burning stoves...starting with London of course, but I...

    Stove questions.....

I have found a few articles going back 9 months, stating how wood burning stoves should be banned due to them pumping out polluting emissions. Unfortunately the installer is not willing to budge on the price anymore. What do you think of the price for the dry wood? Is it worth it or should I...

    Stove questions.....

So we don't have to worry about wood stoves being banned in the near future? Couple of things....it will cost and extra £150 if I go for the 904 flue...is it worth it? Also what do you think about the quote and the type of stove? Is it worth it? Lastly, I've found someone willing to deliver...

    Stove questions.....

I was originally going to go for the 904, but my decision was based on some websites as well as speaking to some installers, whom state that the 904 is slightly thicker steel, but once corrosion sets in, then it won't matter because it will still corrode and may only last slightly longer. Now...

    Stove questions.....

Hi again, thanks for all your help and advice.....just to let you know that I've ordered the Dunsley Highlander 5SG slimline, with 316 liner. Stove, liner and hetas installation, which includes opening the chimney are £1850.... What do you think?

    Stove questions.....

The cost of scaffolding and building control for me is around £500-£600, which does make it financially viable. The hetas installer also advised that I'd have remove the gas flue liner out which he said was not designed for heat from stoves (not sure if there is a difference between the gas and...

    Stove questions.....

Thanks very much guys. I'm awaiting for the guy whom quoted me £1500 to send some pics of the stove, but I get the feeling it will be a cheap stove, considering the price...only time will tell. Regarding DIY, I'm pretty good and could do all the job. In fact I'd be happy to do it all myself...

    Stove questions.....

Thanks gerald. There are so many stoves, even from the manufacturers you've mentioned, that it's just baffling. I've had two hetas installers quotes yesterday. One said £1500 and other said £2300. The cheaper one is offering to get an ex-display 5kw model (will find out the available brands...

    Ongoing window/condensation problems....

I can see this from both points-of-view...on one hand fresh air has less water, but on the other hand if the same fresh air is leaking from the frame, hitting a pane of glass which is on the inside of the window, then surely the combination of warm humid air from the room and cooled down glass...

    Ongoing window/condensation problems....

Thanks lower. When you say seal the window with masking tape, do you mean cover the rubber gasket with masking tape? Also do I put the masking tape on the inside or outside or both?

    Ongoing window/condensation problems....

Guess what?? I'm thinking I may have found a possible source of condensation! Last night I placed my hygrometer in the basement which is a pretty cold and damp area. This morning I've checked and the hygrometer is showing 95% humidity (up from 70% in the living room). Also just to add to the...
