    eight megabit!

Back to the original question for a sec, I also find diynot's forum very slow indeed, and not just from here (8 meg, about 7600 actual) . Heres another speedtest, personally I find these ones much better http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html http://speedtester.bt.com/ If you consider...

    CCTV to safeguard....

Maybe that should read "there have been just 7 camera attacks in 3 years" So now they are going to put cameras up watching every one? how much is that going to cost in comparison to 7 new or repaired cameras? And what good will cathing the culprits do? even until this week they would have got...

Advice really needed from non-noobs about memory

Not sure how you come to that conclusion, of course more ram wont harm, but if you anrt going to use it, surely the money could be better spent elsewhere, for eg high performance ram, new board, new cpu, etc etc

    just wondering about hard drives

eh ? Back to the original, I do find that newer drives tend to fail faster than older ones, maybe because they are now selling more, therefore making more at once, and possibly because of that using cheaper parts or not controlling quality as well as before. You would be suprised how many...

Drilling into a Beam or Lintel : What drill bit do i need ??

Masonry bits - hammer all you like, thats what they are designed to do - hammer. HSS, wood or other types should not be used on hammer, they drill by cutting rather than bashing.

Drilling into a Beam or Lintel : What drill bit do i need ??

Be sure not to drill with that bit with the hammer action on or you will have 4 busted bits ;)

    Our local medical practice

I'm lucky, our doctor has an "open surgery" on most days, where you basically turn up and wait, the odd time I've been he hasnt turned up till about 10 - it opens at 9, makes you wonder what he actually does for his £100 + a year. Its downright ridiculous that you have to wait so long, 6 days...

    CPU and mobo test software

Yeah proprietry cases/fittings are a total pain. I also offer a no fix-no fee policy but it also states that if I cant fix it then they dont pay, IF however, I can tell them whats wrong with it and they then decide not to go ahead with the repair, then a call out (if a home visit) or a small...

    CPU and mobo test software

£182 !!! They are having a laugh. What buggers it up to an extent is the ram, ok a new board and cpu, fine, but then you need to add on another £50 or there abouts for 512 DDR unless you want to try and find a board thate takes RIMMS! That said, I'd say you could probably do a half decent...

    Sds drill impact force

Not sure what other considerations there are to take into account apart from the impact energy and power, My Delwat 005 24V SDS rates at 2 Joules and it doesnt have give it some.

    CPU and mobo test software

An I assume that the drives from the faulty machine didnt have any problems in a good machine and likewise a good drive had the same probs in the faulty one. I also assume you dont have another board handy. Obviously at some stage you have to say that too much time has been spent and before...

    CPU and mobo test software

Have you tried a known working hard drive ? see if still locks when booting from a cd? or vice versa, put one of these drives in a working machine see if exhibits similar probs, just to get another thing out of the equation.

How the heck can sending text messages be good for literacy ! I think the morons that decided this dont realise the "shorthand" that kids use, I dont, if I text I use normal words and Isuspect they do (if they are even able to work a phone)

    CPU and mobo test software

Hi, Can you confirm it happens when ANY hard drive is connected? Might sound obvious but have you checked the bios to make sure that the HDD settings havnt been set manually and incorrectly, same for floppy (and of course the floppy cable and floppy power cable are on the right way!) . Also...

    CBB

I dotn watch it, I cant see the point in it, I think I'd rather watch slow drying paint dry. I dont know anything about any of them but I will say that whist JAde seems to me to be a bit "common" and Shipla a bit stuck up. At the end of the day, I dont see whats wrong with calling her miss...

    CPU and mobo test software

Whats your budget ;) I use a range of things, a PHD PCI card is great for diagnostics but they aint cheap. Pccheck is also good (havnt used later versions, mine is old) It comes with various cables to help test ports on the pc, mine doesnt do usb lol thats how old my one is! I might invest...
