I am re-roofing part of the roof and have removed existing Rosemary tiles, there were no battens used previously just nailed straight into the felt. Should I use battens when replacing or just nail into membrane/felt as previous?

I bought a boiler which apparently will only work with the above thermostatic controller. Does anyone have any idea where I can get one. They are advertised for sale by a couple of merchants eg my tub but they are unable to supply. Alternatively can anyone suggest an alternative. Thanks.
