    David Cameron

Pity there aren't a few more like Dennis Skinner around to keep Tony on his toes. I heard Cameron having quite a good go at Tony in the commons. I read in todays paper that Cameron is going to force local constituency parties to field more women and representitives of ethnic minorities as...

I HATE CHRISTMAS AND THIS IS WHY

I feel a bit sorry for bob and the others who don't enjoy christmas. I love it. My wife works hard at it and my kids really look forward to it. They have been decorating the tree today. I put up some lights on the outside of the house, they are for other people to look at! We have champers and...

How do I drill a level hole ?

This is the best way that I have ever found to do this job. Even when you have done this loads of times you will always get a much more horizontal hole if someone is watching from the side.

Are all jigsaws as slow as this?

I have a makita with pendulum action, although it's quite old now. I have found that with this and other jigsaws if you try to cut too tight a curve the end of the blade will wander outwards so that the cut edge is not at 90 degrees to the face. There's a name for this - I'm sure someone will...

    Dumb Question...

Pva takes longer to dry, is not usually waterproof, is a lot cheaper. Polyurethane (PU) adhesive is dry in about 10-15 minutes, I think it's generally waterproof and I use it for exterior joinery. It starts to cure on contact with the moisture in the wood (don't leave the top off the bottle...

Worktop mitre - left to right???

Actually it can make quite a difference depending on the material. You should work left to right so the movement along the workpiece is opposite to the rotation of the cutter. It gives a better cut and it's easier to control the router.

    Wooden stave kitchen worktop joints

No probs, but to look right you should also stop the moulding before the worktop meets a wall or kitchen unit etc.

Advice on how to drill 4" hole!!

107mm diamond core, hired one yesterday for £10 + vat, and drill for another £10 + vat. Started drilling yesterday afternoon and got through the block in about 10 mins and spent another 20 mins on the brick behind it. Gave up as I had to be back at work at 3pm so I gave it another 20 mins after...

    MDF Primer?

We work with a lot of mdf and I looked into the health & safety implications recently. There is no significant risk from formaldehyde fumes when cutting, although as Taffy says you should use a good dust mask as any fine dust can be harmful. You do not need to use special mdf primer. Most...

    A Great Hammer Needed!!

The best hammer I have is a 16oz stanley steelmaster claw hammer. I have had this 15 years and used to use it loads for cladding sheds(including pulling bent nails out). It still gets used every day and is as good as ever. I also have an estwing 20oz claw hammer with the rubber handle. This...

    Weatherproofing exterior wooden staircase

I don't think you could easily weatherproof open grain like this, but before anything else you should get some clear preservative and brush it on liberally, as this will help to prevent any rot.

    Free Money ??

I went to see a car once, agreed to buy and went back the next day with £2000 in £50 notes fresh from the bank. The owner of the car didn't want to take them for fear of forgeries but I finally managed to persuade him to phone my bank to check that I had only just withdrawn them (this was in the...
