    Wooden stave kitchen worktop joints

Personally I think the best way is to butt joint the worktops, then stop the moulding about 2" away from the internal corners. I have done this in my own kitchen recently and it looks nice, and a bit more individual than running the moulding right up to the joint. If you don't like it you could...

    MDF skirtin of Wood?

Apart from the comments above, you can still fill and pin mdf, and I think that it's slightly more flexible than wood so easier to fit to your wall. And it doesn't split so easily when you pin it.

    Which sander?

Random orbit any day of the week. I have both and the belt sander rarely gets used unless you have something really heavy duty to do, it is just not as versatile as the random orbit. Have a look at the Metabo SXE 450.

Solid oak floor in porch and hall.

I must admit I hadn't thought of that, although I have never seen puddles of water in either of these rooms from shoes or brollies. Also, isn't that hardwax (osman?) pretty impermeable to water?

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

I take your point but I would think that these joists must be running the long way, even I could walk along an 8" x 2" at 2.5m long without it flexing noticeably.

    Bedroom Floor "bouncing"

Are you sure that noggins will take the bounce out of the floor, I would have thought that once the floorboards are fixed to the top of the joists this would stop sideways movement, and if the joists are flexing vertically then neither noggins nor herringbone would stop this. I reckon that the...

Solid oak floor in porch and hall.

The porch has a concrete floor, the hall has softwood floorboards. I am thinking of using solid oak T&G, (137mm cover). I have been advised to lay the new floor in the hall onto cork backing and to secret nail onto old floorboards. In the porch I will lay a dpm, then cork backing, and the...

How about something that can instantly identify small fittings, bolts, nuts etc. and tell you what they belong to so that you finally know that you can throw out that spare set of fixing brackets that came with the loft ladder that you fitted in your previous house 20 years ago but since forgot...

Is it possible to cut a kitchen worktop in situ without chip

What I would do would be to mark your lines, cut all the way down them as far as you can with a jigsaw with a worktop blade (downward cutting to avoid chipping) and finish of what you can't get with the jigsaw with a handsaw. Then use an electric sander which can make a good job of straightening...

    Christmas lights already

Very true, there are a couple of houses round here that go way over the top and the wife and I think they look awful, but we always take the kids because they love them.

    Cutting large boards

Another option may be to ask at a joinery workshop for the sizes you want. Make sure you have a clear list of exactly what you want so that they don't have to start deciphering bad drawings and converting inches, cms and mm all on the same drawing (it happens, I promise you) and don't start...

    GLITTER CAUGHT AGAIN

He took his pc in for repair and was found to have a huge collection of child porn and torture on it. That's what he went to jail for. There was a case brought against him for under-age sex but he was found not guilty of that. I suspect that if the jury had known about the porn collection they...
