    (another) Karcher P/W washer problem!

Model No K411a. Unused for a few years due to a leak I didn't have time to fix. Last week made time to remove the casing and have a look. Water leaking big-time from one of the 3 white plastic "plugs" (with O-ring) that sit in the cylinder head.. it was broken (frost?). Unscrewed the 4 big Allen...

Part P regs and proerty insurance

Thanks m8 ..but I guess if the work is non-notifiable (and I think it is) then I need not worry so much..but I think I have enough pre-2005 cable and parts anyway.

Part P regs and proerty insurance

thanks all..interesting topic. I shall get on with my job tomorrow. I had forgotten that bit about non-notifiable work. I don't think I would want to try and cheat the system though ..i.e. on a notifiable-type job.

Part P regs and proerty insurance

thanks for that Chri5..as I thought then ..one is really taking quite a risk doing stuff yourself post - partP? Can you or anyone elaborate on the post-partP cable colours and fitting issue. ..i.e. if I use old cable (new/unused and fit for purpose but bought pre-Part P..and old (but new )...

Part P regs and proerty insurance

I want to run a spur off a ring main into my adjacent conservatory in my UK house. I am capable of doing the job and did quite a lot of electrical work on the house before PartP(?) came in (just a few years ago if I remember). Back then I got an electrician friend in to check the work I did...

    Smeg dishwasher - went pop!

thank you for the reply..I am trying to source one of these as wifey is getting dishwasher-withdrawal symptoms..it appears to be made by R.E. M. and apart from the serial no. I quoted it says on it in tiny writing!: 0.1 microfarad (symbol)F, then below that 0.1 microfarad(symbol)F(x1)1M omega...

    Smeg dishwasher - went pop!

Yesterday, mid-cycle there was quite a loud pop in the kitchen..electrical smell..and the dishwasher stopped. It hadnt blown the 13A fuse? in the plug ...or tripped the mcb? (its the only appliance on a 16Amp radial circuit). When I looked round the back of the machine there was a small sooty...

still current while rcd trip off?

my sincere apologies for any confusion I have caused..plugwash is right I did mean mcb...sorry had also fitted an rcd double-socket for external use recently..."rcd" was still embeded in my brain! Yes so the mcb for this lighting circuitwas switched to "off" manually and the meter showed...

still current while rcd trip off?

Wanted to change a lighting fitting yesterday..I have 3 x 6 amp rcd -protected circuits so I located the correct one and flicked the trip-switch off manually. I did a job last year on another light fitting and got a bit of a tickle with the rcd switched to off!..so I switched all power off...

    Mountfield ride-on mower - 6.3 x 32mm glass fuse?

Hope its ok to post it here...(thought I'd have more joy than in the garden section!) I need to replace a one-and-a-quarter inch 15A/32V glass bodied fuse (by Littelfuse USA - 313 3AG) which is held in the normal 2-part plastic holder..wire in..wire out type. It's on the alternator circuit...

socket with rcd versus normal socket with separate rcd added

    >Mosez..thanks for the link. >Spark..I wish there was a Screwfix..some things are good pricewise..but bigger electrical stuff can be dear..take e.g garden shredders ..useful as stuff grows like hell with all the sunshine :) about 40% like for like more expensive eg Bosch..some people import but...

socket with rcd versus normal socket with separate rcd added

I'm not sure about Cyprus requirements Spark?..& I may get a sparky in as it happens just because of that...I don't want to invalidate the house insurance etc. I want to fit an new external/weatherproof double socket (without inbuilt rcd) ,which I already have, on an outside wall. I thought it...

socket with rcd versus normal socket with separate rcd added

Is there any inherent advantage in using a socket which contains inbuilt rcd (such as the Timeguard ones which trip at 40 milliseconds) as compared to the use of standard add-on devices to a normal socket..with a similar rating. Basically it seems the latter option is significantly cheaper...

    > Agile..actually I'm in UK right now..I flit back and forth according to the seasons..here for Christmas with the mother in law! This thread relates to my UK house which is on a private water supply..hence the need for a U/V "filter". But yes we have plenty of good builder's merchants in...
