Replacing flow manifold - Worcester Greenstar Junior 28i

My boiler developed a leak a few days back, and after doing some research on google I realized it was leaking from the flow manifold, which is apparently quite a common problem on this boiler. The manifold itself was covered in a white crud, so knew it could do with changing. Anyways I managed...

Getting ring main ends to CU under the stairs

Am thinking I might just take them right to the front of the house (under the floorboards in the box room) then take them down right in the corner of the wall (vertical safe zone) then cut a channel in the concrete floor below the wooden skirting (DPM also to contend with in that case) and then...

Getting ring main ends to CU under the stairs

I thought about that... moving it to the wall near the front door would make things easier... but then I'd still need to get the incoming supply back to that point, so still need a way of getting that feed from under the stairs to the new position. Plus it's on show, so won't look great

Getting ring main ends to CU under the stairs

if I did it this way (but internally with a chase running down the wall) I suppose I could just put an electrical blanking plate in front of it on the wall, close to the stairs (fairly non-obtrusive) to indicate a vertical cable run?

Getting ring main ends to CU under the stairs

am not sure yet.....my old 1960's consumer unit only has 2 switches - lights and sockets..... both go through the wall into the kitchen. At that point they go behind the kitchen units. The first unit closest to the separating wall is a built-in gas oven, and I don't fancy pulling all that out to...

Getting ring main ends to CU under the stairs

yep it's a wall, but the problem is that at the top of that wall you are then directly under the last couple of steps on the stairs. These look like the most likely options: in conduit going through the kitchen (my least favorite option!) going outside the house via the boxroom...

Getting ring main ends to CU under the stairs

He's a mate, but we're not best buddies and he's not seen our new house yet, so I don't really want to ask him to be doing a 90-minute round-trip to Essex, just to say to me "just run them down there" then be off again! Of course I want everything to be compliant and he won't sign it off...

Getting ring main ends to CU under the stairs

I didn't think I could run it along any structural part of the stairs?

Getting ring main ends to CU under the stairs

I'm having the house re-wired at the moment. A friend of mine who is a fully qualified electrician has offered to come in for a few hours and fit a new CU for me (Hager Design 30, fully loaded with RCBO's) and he knows I'm fairly competent, so am good to do most of the donkey work (chase walls...

    Chimney removal - advice needed

ok well I carried on knocking it down, and just as I'd hoped, the cavity stopped halfway down :-) I carefully removed all the breeze blocks, and have carefully stacked them back up again in the cavity on my neighbours side. It's not going anywhere now. Rather frustratingly, I couldn't get it...

    Chimney removal - advice needed

I'm still not entirely sure why it's relevant, but as I'm not a professional builder (and certainly not narrow-minded enough to ignore any free advice :D) , I've uploaded before and after pics of the stack in the loft and the upstairs bedroom as I'm interested to see if it sheds any further...

    Chimney removal - advice needed

They are aware of the work and I got them to sign a party wall document before I got started. They are an elderly couple and the bloke hasn't been well the past few days, but yes I'll double check with them to see if they know anything. Unlikely though, as they would've most likely mentioned it...

    Chimney removal - advice needed

Hi guys, looking for a bit of friendly advice on removing a chimney breast in the living room. Have already had a steel beam fitted in the loft by a professional company to support the chimney breast, and I personally removed the section in the upstairs bedroom no problem, and was moving on to...

ducting for pressure-washer in a van

thanks john, yes the boiler looks like a standard jet wash boiler with the rectangular connector on top. I don't suppose you have any links to the stuff I need, which you could share? I'm struggling to find UK suppliers whenever I google search this stuff! :?

ducting for pressure-washer in a van

thanks, it never occured to me to go straight through the floor! The simple solutions are usually the best, so will probably go that route. One other question.... if I route directly off the boiler to the roof, would using a standard plastic rectangle to round adaptor together with standard...

ducting for pressure-washer in a van

Hi guys I was wondering if you could offer some advice on some work I need to do to my van. Basically I recently purchased a self-contained pressure-washing van, but the ducting-work of the former owner leaves a lot to be desired! I’m looking to replace the connectors and hoses, but have...
