What if I plug the Dyson VACUUM in somewhere else, and just put a blanking plate over the socket - then nothing will ever get plugged into it?

I was assuming it was dead because water was getting onto it.

It's a Dyson Vacuum. I just grew up with the word 'Hoover' being used to describe the thing you push around to pick up debris off the floor, regardless of manufacturer. See - I'm always learning!

Yes there is the washing machine ext. cable, but just checked and no leaks.

Correct - the only time it reset straight away was on Friday when I'd been at work all day and so could have dried out by the time I got home. Saturday night and last night it didn't reset until I switched off the Kitchen MCB.

In regards to water, wouldn't there be more visible evidence of this? Like dark damp patches on the walls etc. Or are you talking one single drop of water getting through a crack somewhere?
