    Intermittent Tripping

What if I plug the Dyson VACUUM in somewhere else, and just put a blanking plate over the socket - then nothing will ever get plugged into it?

    Intermittent Tripping

I was assuming it was dead because water was getting onto it.

    Intermittent Tripping

It's a Dyson Vacuum. I just grew up with the word 'Hoover' being used to describe the thing you push around to pick up debris off the floor, regardless of manufacturer. See - I'm always learning!

    Intermittent Tripping

Hopefully Final Update: The electric stayed on overnight last night. Just before going to bed I tried to plug the Dyson Hoover back into the plug socket that is next to the back door (where I suspected the water was coming in) and that socket is now completely dead. The rest of the house...

    Intermittent Tripping

Thank you for your message. The idea of ordering that was to plug in one appliance at a time into it in the hope that it would be the adapter that trips off and not the whole circuit - and eventually know specifically which appliance is faulty. Sounds like it wasn't a good idea though. It's...

Yes there is the washing machine ext. cable, but just checked and no leaks.

    Intermittent Tripping

Correct - the only time it reset straight away was on Friday when I'd been at work all day and so could have dried out by the time I got home. Saturday night and last night it didn't reset until I switched off the Kitchen MCB.

    Intermittent Tripping

That's the thing - on Saturday night and the early hours of this morning it wouldn't reset straight away, it kept tripping back off until I switched off the Kitchen MCB. Friday I wasn't home when it tripped off so it could well have dried out by the time I got home, and so reset straight away...

    Intermittent Tripping

Another Update: I think - though I obviously can't be sure - that I might have figured it out. At the back of the house we have French doors, with a flat roof over the top. The drain for the water to come off the flat roof was completely blocked up with mud and leaves, and so it was like a lake...

    Intermittent Tripping

OK thanks - they are both unplugged now. The freezer is directly under the boiler, so I guess one drip of water from the boiler, onto the back of the freezer (it is in line with the back of it) could have done it. My girlfriend reckons the fridge and freezer in there have been plugged in for...

In regards to water, wouldn't there be more visible evidence of this? Like dark damp patches on the walls etc. Or are you talking one single drop of water getting through a crack somewhere?

    Intermittent Tripping

Update: I've come home to get it sorted as it's playing on my mind. The side room (which I earlier called the garage) is on the same Socket Circuit as the Kitchen - including the Combi Boiler, so the MCB labelled Water Heater isn't doing anything either. Also, the Fridge & Freezer that are in...

    Intermittent Tripping

I agree - but nobody sounds keen on coming! I even just spoke to a domestic appliance repair guy, just to find out what he’d be able to do if we did pay for him to come out - and he said to get an electrician first! So the electrician told me to test them myself using an extension lead, or get a...

    Intermittent Tripping

Yes they definitely work, but weren't plugged in during the RCD Trip. Should I use a basic extension lead, or one with a safety cut out? I have one of those long, red extension reels with the safety cut out.

 What do I do then!?

    Intermittent Tripping

Thanks - I'll have a look tonight and check if it's on the kitchen circuit. I have just spoken to another electrician, who I have used before, and he's said the same thing - "Check if it definitely is the fridge, freezer, or any other appliance, by plugging in an extension lead from another...

    Intermittent Tripping

I did wonder about this, but as I say - he is very reputable in the area, and lives literally a 1 minute walk (and an even quicker drive) from my house so wouldn't have been a huge burden on him to come and have a look. He seemed quite genuine when I spoke to him, but he said he had an almost...

    Intermittent Tripping

I'll double check when I get home - but I expect the boiler is on the circuit labelled 'Water Heater'. TBH, that's the only MCB I didn't switch off when checking the circuits as that's something I just assumed was labelled correctly, and didn't want to mess about with it. However, I definitely...

    Intermittent Tripping

Sorry, I just put garage as it's easier than explaining what it actually is. It's just a little storage room on the side of the house, where the Combi-Boiler is, and my girlfriend's treadmill. Whoever did the kitchen extension to the rear side had this put at the front of the house for extra...

    Intermittent Tripping

Only just noticed this bit. I have combi-boiler now, so I assume it is that which is connected to this MCB. I know - I never said it was conclusive, hence why I'm here asking what to do next. You said to call an electrician, I did that and he said I've already done everything he would do...
