Do I need a cill on a composite door

Thanks both for the replies. The cill would not serve any purpose other than to protect the entrance from water ingress. The doorway is not protected from the weather. I could potentially sit the window on a beads of sealant.. Pictures attached.

Do I need a cill on a composite door

Hi I have a low threshold composite door. Should it be fitted onto of a cill unit? Or can it just be installed directly into the opening of the brickwork. Thanks

    Retro fitting cavity closers

Hi Anyone got any ideas on the best way to retro fit cavity closers? I have good access to the inner blockwork leaf. The windows are fitted and foamed up preventing fixing to the external leaf as you would usually do. I'm thinking it's now best to leave them out and tack some vertical DPC upto...

    Facia board kick up height

Hi Can anyone help me with what my "kick up" height would be for my roof for the eaves tiles. I have the pitch at 49degrees and will be using small format Redland plain concrete tiles. I will be installing the top surface of the facia board above the top of the rafter to provide the kick. I...

    Single storey extension deviation

Sorry, Have i misunderstood? Your builder isn't keen on discussing the fact he has built your extension 300mm beyond the stated dimension?

    Continuing cavity into porch?

I had a porch with cavity built onto an existing building. I fitted a DPC behind the wall starter to the inner leaf of blockwork. I wasn't a fan of cutting into the existing building and potentially weakening structurally.

    Garden Room Build

Thank for the input. I have decided to go down the cavity wall route after pricing up the cost of cladding! I'm however unsure how the last roof joint of the flat roof should be detailed. It is important because i intend to built the garden room as close to the boundary as possible. I have...

    Garden Room Build

Good morning. I'm currently looking at my options of having a garden room built for use as a office & home gym. I would like to use the building year round so would have it built to a specification equal to a new build / extension. The building would measure 3.6m x 4.6m in plan. The maximum...

Advise please, our foundation is extending to neighbours property

Something that might worth exploring. If you get in touch with a RICS member (Royal institute of chartered surveyors) they will offer you 30mins of advice. They cover things such as party wall agreemnts, boundary disputes etc.

    Extension Roof & Guttering Options

@noseall No worries. Looks like we will be going for a flat roof to gain the additional space. Have flat roof coverings / construction come along in the last few years? I have always been wary of them due to anecdotal evidence from friends of friends. We would probably look at a warm roof...

Window cills. The window cills (bottom of window) at first floor level are 3.8m above existing ground level.

    Extension Roof & Guttering Options

Hi Noseall. Thanks for the reply. Measurements are not random and are taken as surveyed against the existing property or proposed. Point taken on the 2575mm. Existing internal ceiling heights are 2375mm. A 2.4m top of wall plate height from finished floor level would seem much more appropriate...

    45 degree rule nightmare

Hi Jeds Interesting comment. To clarify, are you saying that proposed developments that do not receive objection are approved without assessing amenity ie righ to light etc. Regards

    Extension Roof & Guttering Options

I wouldn't have the same issue as the bottom of my window cills are 3.8m high, although im still dubious about flat roof and water ingress years down the line. Ive also seen an increase of new developments using engineering floor joists. It removes the need for internal load bearing walls and...

    Extension Roof & Guttering Options

No neighbour issues and we would like to keep it that way. We wouldn't want the neighbours gutters over the boundary line so only right we apply the same rules back. Was the 2.3m height a planning constraint?
