Drain layout - advice & views please

Hi, I've been thinking of a way to vent the soil system using the existing vent part of the original soil stack, if I could use this it would save me having to have a vent pipe coming through the roof of the extension and going up the side wall of the house. The original soil stack is to the...

Plastic Underground drainage pipe v's plastic Soil pipe

I thought it may be that. It's just the information doesn't explain why you can't use soil pipe underground or underground drain pipes above ground and I like to know these things. Thanks.

Plastic Underground drainage pipe v's plastic Soil pipe

Hi, could anyone explain what the difference is between the two and I'm not just talking about the colour :) Why can't you use the underground stuff as a soil pipe and vice versea? Just interested in knowing why. Cheers.

A couple of building questions ?

Yeah I've read that too much fall isn't a good thing so I'll read up on the subject and go with the flow! I'll run my plans for the drains / oversite past the BCO in the next few days to see if he has any input but hopefully he'll ok my proposals Thank you for your help and advice. Cheers.

A couple of building questions ?

Hi, Yeah before I do anything I'm going to check the the BCO approves of my design as I want it right first time. Good news anyway, I've been out measuring and I think the drains will be able to go under the oversite ok and I've been worrying unnecessarily. Where the WC & kitchen sink...

A couple of building questions ?

Hi, thanks for your advice & help. What sort of drain, how would it be constructed? Yeah I could miss out the DPM if it would help the situation. I haven't checked for sure if I can get the fall with the pipes under the oversite but it doesn't look like it. If the pipes were under there...

A couple of building questions ?

Hi, sorry I don't think I made it clear, I haven't done the drains or the oversite yet. Below is a diagram of the proposed drainage layout. I posted a thread in the Plumbing section about the drain layout, you can find it here...

A couple of building questions ?

Hi, Now for a drain question :) With my suspended timber floor I have to have a 150mm air void between the bottom of the joists and the 100mm thick oversite concrete. How do you go on with the drains and the oversite concrete, do the drains have to be under the over site? I can't...

Drain layout - advice & views please

Hi, Yeah I'm going to find out what the BCO will be happy with before I cut & position the pipe runs, I don't want to find it all needs changing once its in as the pipe adds up to a few quid. The BCO is a decent bloke & very helpful so I think he'll be more than happy to give it the once over...

Drain layout - advice & views please

Hi, Yeah I appreciated that the BCO has the final word but I'm just starting on the drains so was just wondering if the layout I have planned was anywhere near how it should be. @ Hugh Jaleak, The proposed run of pipe from the kitchen sink is the problem, I knew it wasn't ideal. If I run...

Drain layout - advice & views please

Hi, I would appreciate any advice or recommendations on the new layout of my drains. The drains are being altered because of our new extension on the back of the house, the original inspection chambers are being removed so we don't have them under the extension floor, because of this the run...

Eaves support tray - should overlaps be sealed

It can't hurt though can it.

Eaves support tray - should overlaps be sealed

I would seal them together. You could use silicone, key the surfaces to be joined with some rough sand paper first to give the silicone a better surface to stick to. Cheers.

Roof rafters an inch lower at one end - Advice please?

All sorted now, the rafters are now all level with no fall on the roof :D After a lot of measuring I had decided that the best solution was to re-seat the rafters at both ends of the roof (some down & some up) as this would cause the least disturbance, any other solution would have been a...

Roof rafters an inch lower at one end - Advice please?

Yes that is correct. That's a very good idea & not something I had thought of, I'll have a think about it & if altering the rafters is going to be to much of a pain I may use your method. I wouldn't hesitate to use your method if the roof was on a house, but as the extension is only a...

Roof rafters an inch lower at one end - Advice please?

No I didn't have to look that far afield to get a bodge job, the bloke was local. Whats the best solution to sort this then? Cheers.

Roof rafters an inch lower at one end - Advice please?

No...How can the pitch get greater when the front of the tile is higher....it has to be less. Yes it is the first tile (Eaves tile) but the rafters are going to be out all the way up the roof towards the ridge plate, fair enough the amount of which the rafter is out will get less the further...

Roof rafters an inch lower at one end - Advice please?

So even if the walls were not parallel the rafters could be kept level by adjusting the depth of the birdsmouth cuts, thought so. The rafter length is 2860mm The 1" lower rafters are causing the fascia board to lift the front edge of the tile by the same amount, I haven't measured it on...

Roof rafters an inch lower at one end - Advice please?

Can I ask you to explain this to me please as I don't understand ? The way I understand it, if the walls were not parallel altering the depth of the birdsmouth cut would keep the rafter at the same level, wouldn't it ? Cheers.
