Which insulation - cold->warm deck flat roof

If your current U value was above 0.53 iirc, then you have to improve as of about october last year. Or that was how i understood it now. I paid about £40 per m2, with the materials coming from jewsons. that was the best price i could find at the time. £20 would have put a big smile on my...

Which insulation - cold->warm deck flat roof

It was done with 126mm recticel with the 6mm ply included. Can't call it a cheap option, but was the cheapest of the PIR/PUR i could find. The ecotherm turned out to be a tease... boards were about half the size of the recticel, so needed twice as many. Make up of the roof is now, joists...

Which insulation - cold->warm deck flat roof

went ok yesterday i think. some rotting fascia board on the front of the house was noted and replaced. last bit of the old flat roof with stripped, new firings installed, deck boards replaced and a base felt layer installed. The man from building control was happy. A amusing hangover...

Which insulation - cold->warm deck flat roof

Roof replacement underway.. Roofer has stripped old felt away. Lifted deck boards and is replacing the firings. The old ones only ran about a third of the way across the roof for some reason. He also found the roof joists aren't level, they are lower at the side that meets the pitch roof...

    leaking or trapped moisture?

Didn't think copings were supposed to prevent water ingress, just provide an overhang to protect the face of the wall. A DPC under the copings provides the barrier to stop water coming down through the wall.

Replace a tap washer... that 'should' take 5 mins..

nope, haven't got any and good point. i need to take it apart again anyway, as i think the o-ring on the spindle needs replacing as well. didn't have one of those handy. got a very slight weep from the top of the valve which is confirming my suspicion. so o-ring and some grease needed...

Replace a tap washer... that 'should' take 5 mins..

Got a load of family over at the weekend so thought i'd best sort the bathroom sink cold tap out. looked like the washer had gone as you had to screw it down through the sink to turn the tap off. Been putting it off since friday as i knew a complication would spring up... Of course they...

    Additional insulation for this loft

definately don't sandwich your electrical cables in insulation! the cables could the overheat if you do. they should be on top of any insulation to allow any heat to dissipate. you'll probably find you don't have enough slack to do this though. suspect some of the better roofing experts...

Odd damp patch on kitch wall noticed after block paving laid

hope it has fixed it for all that effort.

    Mould under floors boards

i'd go for your timber battens are thermal bridging down to the cold concrete slab. so moisture from the kitchen is getting down and condensation is occuring there, resulting in damp and then mould. that or you have no or not enough air flow through the 25mm void you made with the battens...

    Troublesome cupboard door hinges

i have some cupboards with this style of hinge: http://www.screwfix.com/p/sprung-screw-on-hinges-35mm-110-pack-of-2/28303 They don't stay open or half open like they used to. instead the spring in the hinge closes them. some with more force than others... so i'm assuming this is some...

Odd damp patch on kitch wall noticed after block paving laid

Just a guess here, but it looks like on top of these two damp brinks is your damp proof course. think i can just see it in the last photo. based off that i'd say it was ground water rising up and stopping at the dpc, then coming to the surface of the brick. bit odd it is only happening in...

    Flat roof types

have you checked the insulation on your flat roofs meets current building regs. they say now if you're redoing more than 25% of the roof you have to improve the insulation to current standards if the existing U value is beyond a threshold. hit me on a 58m2 roof and is costing about as much as...

warm deck flat roof and toilet extractor fan

Thanks Noseall. Thats useful for how to do a through the roof job. What about through the wall/fascia? Or are you suggesting the same solution applies? What about the insulation aspect of it all? Cheers.

warm deck flat roof and toilet extractor fan

Hi I'm working on getting my cold deck flat roof converted to warm deck. Latest (and hopefully last) complication is there is currently an extractor fan in a toilet that vents into the cold flat roof void. I guess the neutral airflow up there then carries away the extracted air...

Which insulation - cold->warm deck flat roof

Happily leave this job to a professional. i take on too many jobs as DIY as it is. Most others i take on it doesn't matter so much if it takes a long time or it isn't right first time. But for a roof... i like my ceilings where they are :) Currently being offered 2200+vat for refelting...

Which insulation - cold->warm deck flat roof

Hi After some advice on sensibly priced insulation for a warm deck flat roof conversion. Background. My 58m2 flat roof needs redoing. Lots of cracking, holes through most of the layers, some lifting deck boards etc. Found out that under current building regs i need to improve my...

Polycarbonate Roof covering - Lean-to conservatory

This looks rather like my ultrailite 500 roof. However i can see the glazing bars in mine if i look from underneath. They are just above the bottom layer of the polycarbonate. I know they are there as i watched the thing being built! The chaps that built it happily walked around on the...

    Siemens washer dryer problem.

zipper, your reply almost looks like a quote from the manual. if what you said doesn't work, my next guess would be the solenoid controlling the flow of water for the condenser has gone open circuit meaning no water to cool the hot air from the dryer.
