    Cheers john, Would a pressure reducing valve work. I don't mind spending that as long as it will do the job. Also if i turned down the stop cock to the cold, would this have the same effect as a control valve. Thanks

    Just to follow up on this thread - I changed the old bath taps and replaced with a new crome mixer / shower one and it's the dogs gonards now. Water is red hot in seconds and very powerfull too. Mmm seems the new mixer must be designed for combi boilers then ? Cheers

    Terrywookfit - spot on chief !!! Finally got the stop tap to turn after using a large spanner - took some doing though, bit at a time, just to make sure the handle didn't break off. ran up stairs in joy and the cold water was isolated - this is a learning curve for me as all the information...
