Changing out an intermediate light switch for a new one

The one that links the Common of the first two way with the Common of the second two way, normally housed in the backbox of the intermediate switch. You can see it in the picture.

Changing out an intermediate light switch for a new one

Yes I am aware of that thanks, in this case I would then assume that the Coms would then be used instead of the terminal block linking the Common in both the 2 way switches. Which I can see now in the instruction manual. http://www.retrotouch.co.uk/user/RTS2020-2040_2_way_switch_switch.pdf That...

Changing out an intermediate light switch for a new one

I haven't come across that type of switch before, but I would imagine in your situation you ignore the Com and just connect the L1 1 (old L1 in) and L1 2(old L2 out) and L2 1(old L3 in) and L2 2 (old L4 out). I suspect the Com allows the use of the switch as a one or two way switch as well. If...

    Regulations

Right I'm trying really hard to understand what you are saying here but I don't know what you are talking about when you say split live- do you mean 'switched live' or permanent live? Okay I will assume we are talking about master and slave dimmers - yes - operating a single landing light? Never...

    Regulations

JohnW2, having now read his other post which appears to cover the same subject with the 3 day 'electrician' I'm not convinced he knows what he is doing full stop.

    Regulations

Just so I'm clear what you intend to do because the terminology you are using is confusing. Because it does sound as if you are thinking about using the landing ceiling rose's live and neutral to the landing switch and then linking to the downstairs switch - in other words you are taking the...

    wiring to ceiling light

What are the connections for the new light? If they are simply live, neutral, earth and switch live then wire as outlined above.

    wiring to ceiling light

We could do with a photograph of the other side showing the wiring connections as well. But from the photograph you have shown you appear to have three (Live - red sleeve) 2 neutrals (No sleeve) and a switch live (Grey sleeve) and NO Earth. If the new light is metal and not class 2 then you will...

    wiring to ceiling light

Whatever you do - don't undo the old wiring until you have photographed, drawn or marked the wires in situ. If you have already undone the wires then welcome to the world of the multi-meter. Read this.. http://www.diynot.com/wiki/Electrics:Lighting Is it a ceiling rose you are replacing?

couple questions about new oven fitting

I'm not sure whether your existing socket has a surface mounted or sunken back box. In either case you would need to replace the existing double back box with a dual back box similar to this...

couple questions about new oven fitting

If you want to complete the install yourself then you first need to understand how the circuit currently operates and how to ensure and test that the circuit is dead before you start changing things. From your comments it sounds as if you have a dedicated cooker circuit. One assumes, but you...

Add a new light fitting from a light switch

I doubt you have a neutral at this switch. You are describing strappers on a two way switch.

couple questions about new oven fitting

If it sold in the EU and it is intended to be connected to a socket then it must come with a plug and suitable cable already attached. If it does not then ask then why - it is the law.

    Electrical Certificate and My electrician

I don't agree particularly since the LABC concerned pointed the OP to ELECSA - which shows that they require some form of Scheme involvement before signing off the Building Notice. When I was with NAPIT, not only was there a pre-requisite for 2391 (or equivalent) and other C&G courses but we...

    Electrical Certificate and My electrician

Good to see things are working out. It does seem that LABC's are taking a more pragmatic approach to this aspect of the Building Regulations. Since most Schemes are not willing to complete third party inspections - the Electrical Installation Condition Report seems to be the solution to the...

Part p jobs prior to joining the NICEIC

My experience of the inspection process is that they will accommodate you as best they can. So the OP just picks the first notifiable job - discusses with the customer and the Inspector and moves on from there. Honestly, I'm sure it will be no big deal - after all lets not forget that the OP is...

Part p jobs prior to joining the NICEIC

I was in a similar position with my Scheme - I resolved the problem by speaking to the Inspector directly - explaining the job and the approach I was planning to take. He and the customer were okay with me working the job around the inspection. From the customers perspective he was getting my...

    New sockets in garage

It does seem to me that you are fixated on a certain electrical design plan - that would ultimately be costly and probably illegal under current legislation. Flameport (JohnW2) have suggested an alternative that is both cheaper and legal. So I will repeat: If as it seems you have a ring final...

    Kitchen lighting query

The key issue is that for domestic situations like yours all lamps will require connecting to 230v at the start of the process. As TTC says for some lamps, not just LED by the way, require a separate driver (sometimes supplied with the kit) like these...
