Adding a new light to existing switch problem.

It is unclear what you are trying to do. Are you adding an additional light to a current light and switch - so that the single switch will now operate two lights together. If so then you need to link the second ceiling rose by connecting the brown to the line, blue to the neutral and earth to...

    shower suppl and fuse

Good choice, but assuming it is a new circuit, then you need to speak the Competent Scheme Electrician before you actually start the work. Even if it is just replacing an old shower then it is still worth speaking to him before you start. I know you are in Wales and different rules apply - but...

    shower suppl and fuse

I think JohnW2 is working on the basis that an 8kw shower is advertised as 8kw but has a 230v equivalent of around 7.4kw. Thing is I am not sure Triton actually make an 8kw shower any more - I have seen both 7.5 and 8.5 but not an 8 for a while anyway.

Bathroom Fans - All pretty much same size?

Indeed it should be - just photograph and mark the current wires against their terminal markings and match them to the new fan. You can pick up the Icon 15 plus timer for around £50 now - a lot less than when I bought it a few years ago.

Bathroom Fans - All pretty much same size?

I have fitted an Airflow Icon 15 to my own utility and shower room - works a treat and very quiet. You might want to add the timer module for fan over-run although this may involve extra wiring. One other thing, I am sure I read somewhere that opening the window, especially when it is cold...

    shower suppl and fuse

For my sins I am Triton installer and the chart they give us says for an 8kw shower shows they expect 40A MCB or 35A cartridge fuse. I don't know what your 'friends' shower model is, but all of the Triton manuals that come with the shower have the same chart in. Check the manual and don't forget...

    shower suppl and fuse

So you will be fitting a 40A MCB then? Which is what Triton will be recommending I'll bet. What was your Zs by the way?

Loft Insulation - Electrical Cables and Kingspan Therma

That is correct - unless you are going to add more insulation clip them to the side of the joists to avoid people walking on them. As I said you could put plasterboard between the cable and the insulation - but that seems a bit OTT. Bog standard - but right size - cable clips from any shed.

    Holder Dimmer Switch

Via the internet I am trying to help a friend swap a standard two gang two way rocker switch for this Holder two gang two way dimmer switch - which has 5 terminals instead of the normal 6. There is a single common L.Holder Dimmer Switch instructions by riveralt posted 19 Jul 2015 at 7:42 AM The...

    CU change pricing?

I must have missed that - which one of the CU manufacturers has said that? And if they did, how are you or I going to challenge them? So let me get this straight in the future, as a 'conscientious and caring spark', you are not going to fit one of the various manufacturers metal Consumer Units...

    CU change pricing?

What a load of drivel and pontificating about this hijacked post. For those who are required to fit new Consumer Units - they will fit what's available and 'meets the new standard' - if Wylex say its okay then so be it - I don't have the time or inclination to worry what the definition of...

Loft Insulation - Electrical Cables and Kingspan Therma

You can look up your shower rating online or with the power off remove the front cover of the shower and it state the power rating inside. The key issue is that for electric showers, normally a 6mm² T&E cable will give you sufficient current carrying capacity (ccc) for 8.5kw (37A) and sometimes...

10mm earth cable, outside run colour?

I was reading the whole of 514.3.2 (Green & Red Book) in response to the OP's question. I consider it bad practice to ignore the 'preferably' element of the regulation and not one I would condone. I do not consider aesthetics to be a sound reason to change my view.

    Yes No. Why?

    Fitting new light and switch

Just out of interest, how are you going to wire it? Through the switch? Through a ceiling rose?

    Moving internal alarm sounder (siren)

Can't disagree with your approach davelx ..... but I considered the comments the OP made earlier.... You know how 'neat' and 'tidy' the wiring inside of some alarm main boxes are..

    Bathroom Fan Wiring

My mistake I read the instructions and stopped at.... The installation must have an omnipolar switch with a contact separation of at least 3mm. The circuit must be protected by either a 3 Amp fuse or suitable 3A MCB.
