Small DHW Tank with a Combi?

Noted - thanks! Agreed. Boiler is currently in pre-heat mode but it still takes absolute ages for the hot water to begin. Next time I'm at my daughter's house, I'll run the hot water in the kitchen and see how much of a bowlful I get. I reckon it must be at least a washing up bowlful. XRD

Small DHW Tank with a Combi?

... and cap the existing HW supply under the sink? No need to do it upstairs where the old cylinder was I'm guessing. Dave

Small DHW Tank with a Combi?

@muggles I think you may well have hit the nail on the head there. There was a hot water storage tank upstairs (in the main bedroom) years ago and it would make sense for the hot water to go all the bedroom only to come all the way back down and arrive at the kitchen sink, 3m from the boiler...

Small DHW Tank with a Combi?

Hi, Thanks for the swift reply. 1) No idea of length of pipe run. 2) No. Boiler fires up straight away. 3) Possibly. As per (1) no idea where the pipes run so no idea what would have to be taken up (eg floorboards and/or carpets) in order to re-pipe. Dave

Small DHW Tank with a Combi?

Hi, My daughter has a Combi boiler (specifically a Vokera Compact 25A - a bit of a dog, I know). She’s thinking of replacing it with another Combi boiler. Despite the boiler being about 3m from the kitchen sink, it takes a long time for hot water to come through. So, my question is can...

    Strange Worcester Bosch Greenstar Fault

Dropped into Screwfix today and bought a second Drayton RTS 1. This one 'clicks' at a more believable temperature so I'm guessing that the one fitted on Friday 10th is either faulty (although it seems to work okay) or not calibrated correctly (but I couldn't see anything that I could adjust to...

Thank you for the replies. Any advice on wiring up the Honeywell Home DT90? Cheers, XRD

    Strange Worcester Bosch Greenstar Fault

Well... Home Emergency Cover was a bit of a bust. Sure, they came out but as soon as they were told that an engineer had come out on Monday (i.e. the previous day), they wouldn't touch it - even though the heating was faulty. Usual story - anything an insurance company can do to avoid paying...

    Strange Worcester Bosch Greenstar Fault

Home Energency T&Cs says ... 'What is Covered Primary Heating System Complete failure or breakdown of either the heating or hot water supply provided by the primary heating system' As the boilser is burning gas to no effect and the DHW is getting far too hot I'm guessing something has...

    Strange Worcester Bosch Greenstar Fault

Nope. Programmer/timers and room stats not calling for heat, but boiler is burning gas (flame icon in display and hot flue gases) and I can hear the bellows in the gas meter sighing regularly but the radiators are cold. Will turn the mains on, verify it is doing what I've just said in the...

    Strange Worcester Bosch Greenstar Fault

Do you mean to set the CH temperature on the boiler to 30C? I don't hold much hope for this. CH on boiler is set to 65C (see earlier post this thread) and this afternoon, the temperature reported by the boiler was just over 70C. Currently, the boiler (with programmer/timers and thermostats...

    Strange Worcester Bosch Greenstar Fault

Despite the new powerhead, the CH is still not working correctly and the engineer has now gone home. The boiler is burning gas (I went outside to confirm that hot exhaust gas is coming out of the vent) and it is telling me that the CH temperature is 68C but all radiators are cold. Possibly he...

    Strange Worcester Bosch Greenstar Fault

Hi Jonathan, I see. Yes, he's here now. Turns out that there is a third zone valve (I thought there were just two) and the microswitch has a fault. Luckily my local Screwfix (8 mins away) has a replacement powerhead and he's just gone to get it to fit this evening. Hopefully, we'll be back...

    Strange Worcester Bosch Greenstar Fault

Hi Jonathan, Yes to both questions. Pressing the Radiator key (number 7 in your earlier post) we can set the CH temperature - currently set to 65C and pressing the Tap key (number 8 ), we can set the DHW temperature - currently set to 60C. Yes we have a cylinder stat clamped to the side of...

    Strange Worcester Bosch Greenstar Fault

Hi Jonathan, I don't know for sure but we must have. We can set the DHW temperature differently to the GCH flow temperature. During the long hot summer of 2021 we had the heating off from around March to October and only the hot water coming on twice a day for like 10 mins at a time. When we...

    Strange Worcester Bosch Greenstar Fault

Okay - so some further info to aid diagnosis of the problem ... We have a system boiler with a hot water tank. DHW setting on the boiler is 60C. The hot water has been OFF since at least Saturday evening / first thing Sunday morning. Even then only for, like, 10 mins at a time to 'top up'...

    Strange Worcester Bosch Greenstar Fault

Thanks Ian The wiring hasn't altered in the last 3 years (the WB boiler was installed in May 2020) so I think the emf "problem" is unlikely. The boiler was working fine until I noticed the pump running almost continuously yesterday afternoon and investigated. The zone valve end switch seems...

Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, I think I knew that the Zone Valves actually call for heat but had forgoten! I think I have 2 Zone valves - one to direct flow through the heating coli for the DHW tank and the other to direct heat through the top floor rads. I have a (partially) working...
