RCD's and RCBO's...Whats the difference you may ask?

I'm afraid Risteard is correct. The definition given for RCD covers any device (or association of devices) that provides residual current protection. The definitions of RCBO and RCCB specify if overload and/or short circuit protection is included or not. Both an RCBO and an RCCB would be...

    PAT Testing Questions

ONLY if the tester is competent to do so! A lot of people who do PAT (particulary in-house testers) are certainly not, and should not just steam in to fixed, hardwired appliance inspection & testing, just because it's covered in the CoP!

    PAT Testing Questions

Yes, the IEE CoP covers fixed, hard wired equipment as well as portable. Do they need testing? Yes, they should be part of an appropriate inspection, testing and maintenance regime, just like portable appliances. Are you the person who should do that inspection & testing? Most probably...

    PAT testing televisions

Never mind BS7671, it's the CoP that matters! IEE Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment (3rd Edition), section 15.4 (pages 73 - 74). Either the 'Hard' earth continuity test (test current not less than 1.5 times the rating of the fuse, upto a max of...

    Junction Box Safe?

That's because the raised plastic bit has broken off. Should be the same as the raised plastic bit on the side of the line terminal. ..which it wouldn't do if the raised plastic bit hadn't broken off. Do as BAS says, and get a new junction box.

pls pls help - have my assesment tuesday 18th

Sorry amcevoy, but BAS has hit the nail square on the head in this thread. Regardless of how poor you consider your college to be, if you haven't managed to pick up even the very basics of electric circuits in 2 years (and my word, there is enough info out there, on the web (the wiki on this...

13A to 5V adaptor is this allowed?

Me neither. Are you talking about a label? I would say that would be pretty superfluous. All desktop/tower PC PSUs (ie. not laptop) that I have ever seen have been Class I. Any PC frame they are fitted into will also therefore be some flavour of Class I. To mess about looking for a SI...

    ohms resistance

No, (230 x 230)/16, not 0.16. Surely you don't need advice on how to operate a calculator? This also all begs the question: why exactly would you want/need to know the resistances of your home appliances?

    PAT - Rip Off

No one has said that it does. However, you will find that it is refered to many times in, and informs a fair bit of, the IEE CoP. I think that is the general idea conny was getting at. :)
